Getting rid of unwanted hair is only half the battle. Keeping your skin smooth and rash-free after the hair is gone is another feat to take on! To help you achieve complete victory, keep these tips with you as ammo.
Don’t touch it!
No matter how you got your hair removed – whether it’s through waxing, epilating, threading, plucking, shaving, sugaring, or laser – the first rule to follow is to avoid touching your skin right after you get the procedure, especially if you haven’t washed your hands. Touching the area soon after hair removal might lead to pore clogging or, worse, pimples or infections due to the bacteria found in your hands.
Also, don’t wash the area or put any product on it for a few hours. For waxing and plucking, let your skin rest for 24 hours. For sugaring, wait at least eight hours. For threading, you can start applying moisturizer around the area or filling in your brows after a couple of hours.
Delay any sweaty activity
You may want to re-schedule your gym time after having your hair removed. Excessive sweating can make the skin prone to pimples and infections. Plus, the skin can feel doubly itchy when sweat interacts with open pores.
Exfoliate to avoid bumps
When you’re ready to take a shower, make sure to exfoliate! It helps you avoid getting little red bumps and ingrown hair by removing dead cells on your skin’s surface. Use a product that doesn’t have a strong fragrance about twice a week, as some fragrances might be too harsh when applied directly to the skin. You can also try our DIY green tea sugar scrub for an all-natural exfoliating option.
Pamper and treat
If you can, indulge yourself with an oatmeal bath. Oatmeal contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which help in soothing your skin and preventing further irritations. Simply add a few scoops of uncooked oatmeal into a fine cloth bag, allow it to soak, then apply the oatmeal water to your skin.
Moisturizing is also key after any hair-removal procedure as it helps reduce the chances of getting ingrown hair, razor burn and rashes. Slather on skin-soothing products like aloe vera lotion, witch hazel or hydrocortisone to avoid or calm inflammation.
If you went for a threading, don’t be scared if your skin is a bit red after the procedure. It will go away after a couple of hours. To make the redness subside faster, apply a cool compress.
Don’t skip sunscreen
We all know how important it is to use sunscreen, even when indoors. But did you know that the skin is more sensitive than ever after a hair-removal procedure? So make sure that you don’t get sun-related skin problems – uneven skin tone, heat rash, sunburn and more – by slathering sunscreen on as part of your regular morning routine.
What's your preferred method for hair removal? Have you tried any of these tips? What about new ones that you can share?
Our #SummerGoals would not be complete without a trip to the beach! Imagine cooling off in the waters of some dreamy resort...but first things first. We're Project Vanity girls and we want to look good while making sure that we stay protected from sun damage.
Here's what we recommend to get you beach-ready from head to toe!
HAIR
You need:
Sunscreen for your hair and scalp
Hair ties or bands
A big floppy hat
You want to look as relaxed as you feel, so leave your curling irons and blowdryers at home! Wear your hair loose (with some sea salt spray for texture!), pulled back in a band, or effortlessly chic in loose braids. Accessorize with a floppy hat to be Instagram selfie-ready and get some shade from the sun, but if it’s not your style, you can also spray sunscreen for your hair and scalp.
Otional: hair masks or hair oils
Wide-tooth comb
Going to the beach comes with the risk of your hair getting dehydrated and damaged from heat and salt water. Aside from rinsing hair thoroughly after playing in the waves, hair masks and oils are your new best friends. You can treat your hair at night then smooth some oil or leave-in conditioner during the day. It's also advisable to use a wide-tooth comb to prevent damage while detangling.
FACE
We've already done quite a few stories on this. If you haven't already tweaked your skincare routine for the summer, do so before anything else! Moisturizer is an especially important part now that the heat is more intense. If you plan on wearing makeup to the beach, then you need to switch to the swim-proof and sweat-proof versions. You can also sport a beach glow-inspired look in keeping with the theme.
BODY
Exercise
Exfoliate
Moisturize
Sun-protect
Stay fresh
Who doesn't want a bikini-ready body in time for a trip to the beach? The best way to achieve this is still the winning combo of a proper diet and regular exercise, but you can also fake a more toned body by using tanners to contour. ;)
To go with your beach bod, you'd want your best skin ever! Smooth and glowing comes after exfoliating then hydrating with lotions. Afterwards, slather on some affordable but effective sunscreen to avoid skin damage. Reapply every so often to be on the safe side. If you're using your bottle leftover last summer, look out for any funny smells, texture or color changes. Spot any of that and chuck it straight to the bin. Be sure to pack your favorite deodorant too!
We also recommend bringing your favorite perfume into sealed bottles like the Travalo. You just pump the perfume straight into the bottle and it will stay there until you use it up. Using normal glass or (yikes) plastic bottles guarantees that your perfume will evaporate before you know it! It's also nice to tote along a more compact perfume container.
HANDS/FEET
Hand cream
Foot cream
Summer nail polish
Your prep is not complete if you ignore your hands and feet. The oppressive hot weather is enough to leave you with dry palms and cracked heels. Toss some hand cream into your purse, as the thick formula stays longer on your skin compared to regular lotion. Give your feet regular TLC to keep them flip-flop worthy. You can also paint fun colors on your nails that glow under black light if you'll be spending a few evenings partying sea-side!
Are you ready for summer? What’s your top beach destination?
The matte lip obsession is far from over as Inglot, a famous Polish cosmetics brand, throws their hat in the ring with the new HD Lip Tint Matte (P1,150). So is it a strong contender?
I didn't get into liquid matte lipsticks because honestly, they are so uncomfortable to wear. You know what I mean! A true shine-free liquid lippie feels crusty when it dries and looks so caked up, with cracks showing every which way. I don't have dry lips but I look like I do whenever I have one of those things on.
But Inglot's HD Lip Tint Matte is different. It dries into a pleasantly flexible finish, and is pigmented enough to be opaque in one swipe. It has a thin watery texture that's glossy at first but becomes ultra matte when dry. It's not moisturizing per se but it's definitely not as dehydrating on the lips as others of its kind.
Staying power is pretty good, too. It can last through a meal with very minor fading, and barely transfers on most surfaces. You can drink or kiss somebody without leaving a mark. Being aggressive, however, is another thing entirely! Haha.
The color with me, #17, is a beatiful brown-based nude with a touch of pink. The brown is strong enough that it doesn't wash me out, even with light eye and cheek makeup. It's a nude that's actually lovely to wear by itself. I think this would look fab on light to warm medium skin like mine.
The catch: if you have severely dry, flaky lips, this won't look so hot on you. If you have moderately dry lips, you can let a balm sink in first and dry before applying this lippie.
So yes, I have finally found a true matte liquid lipstick that I really like! You can find the Inglot HD Lip Tint Matte in Inglot stores in GF Glorietta 5, SM Megamall and SM Mall of Asia.
Thoughts? What are your ultimate matte (and I mean, MATTE) liquid lipstick picks?
Whitening was never a priority for me because I love my skin color just the way it is - well, was. I've been playing a lot of tennis outdoors so I've gotten quite a bit more tan than usual, and not in a way that is pantay (even)! My upper arms and legs are lighter and I have weird tan lines on my back because of my sportswear.
I've never considered using Kojie San before but I thought it won't hurt to see for myself if its whitening claims are true. My goal isn't to lighten my skin, really - I just want to brighten it and get a uniform color all over my body. I also tend to have dark knees and armpits so I'd like help in those areas too.
(I just got a quote for a Revlite laser treatment and the amount made me weak in the knees huhu. Other options are certainly welcome!)
But wait, what is Kojie San? We've all heard about this popular whitening skincare line as it is ubiquitous in all drugstores and supermarkets in the country. But why is it so famous? A quick google reveals why: it works.
Kojie San skincare harnesses the power of kojic acid, a by-product in the fermentation process of malting rice used in brewing Japanese sake. Kojic acid prevents the formation of pigment on our skin, thus lightening it over time. It's a mild bleaching agent as well since it is an acid. It works directly on skin and that makes it vastly different from glutathione, which must be taken intravenously for it to work.
I tried the Kojie San Skin Lightening Soap (P68) and the Body Lightening Lotion (P262) the other day, and guys, no kidding - I was so impressed! The soap lathers very well. That's normal. It has a light fruity scent. What's different though is that after I washed it off, my skin feels like I exfoliated it thoroughly! You know the feeling after a good salt scrub? That's the one.
I don't have much time to exfoliate these days to be honest, so I'm glad to have its cleansing and brightening effects in such an affordable soap.
The Body Lightening Lotion is also a revelation. I'm surprised it's a bit expensive for a brand like Kojie San, but it is soooo lightweight and also contains rosehip oil, Vitamin E, and collagen aside from the kojic acid. It has a gel-like texture which makes it ideal in this heat. Even when I sweat my limbs don't feel like a sticky mess. The scent is a light, lovely floral that is not overpowering at all.
Using powerful skin bleaching products, of course, requires sun protection or at best minimal sun exposure. Make sure to add sunscreen when you leave the house.
In just two uses of the soap and lotion, I've noticed my skin is a bit brighter than usual. I'm excited to see the results after a few weeks! I will also be trying the toner and face cream soon, once I'm able to sort out a minor breakout on my face. I'll keep you guys updated.
In the meantime, I'd love to hear about your feedback after using Kojie San products. Did it work for you? I'm really interested because I've never tried a skincare line that worked this fast. Seriously. What have I been missing?
Kojie San is available at leading supermarkets, drug stores, and sari-sari stores nationwide. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram!
Are you on a job hunt? Or are you just looking for some new lippies that won't attract the wrong kind of attention at work? After picking out the perfect outfit that looks smart and professional, you need to complete the outfit with a flattering lip shade.
We always love a good excuse to buy new lipsticks so here’s five of our job interview-ready/safe-for-work picks for the taking!
When going for a job interview, you would hear the advice to wear neutral makeup shades way too often. While that is tried-and-tested sound advice, this does not mean that we can’t still have fun with what we wear. We want to look confident and put-together, but we also want to showcase our personality.
So if you’re into the trendy liquid lipsticks, try Revlon's Seduction, a warm nude shade that won't make you look pale or washed out. Temptation is also a lovely good-vibes-pink that's not too bright! Lightweight yet moisturizing, this lip color line comes out matte with just a hint of shine.
Nichido Juicy Lips Lipstick in Hawaiian Punch
This is a steal at only P88! It's a neutral pink brown that should look lovely on morena skin. This Nichido line actually has a lot of wearable color suitable for work, ranging from oranges, pinks, and nudes.
Happy Skin #PrintsMadePretty Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippie in Girl Boss
Stress can cause dry lips, so this long-wearing, hydrating lipstick is a good choice. This Happy Skin x Plains & Prints collab version has an ultra-matte finish in a wearable medium mauve shade. It has the perfect name too, Girl Boss!
Nars Audacious Lipstick in Jane
Jane is personally my go-to creative neutral. When I’m not in the mood for mauves and nude pinks, I reach for this Nars lipstick which is known for its great color payoff. The only non-matte in our list, the shade described as "terracotta rose" glides on smoothly in a single stroke.
Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte in Touch of Spice
Matte lipsticks can be non-drying as well, and one great example is this creamy version. The bold color brings to mind warm spices as the name suggests. Touch of Spice is also a great dupe for the popular Kylie Jenner lip look.
What about you? Which lipstick would you wear for your dream job interview?
We’ve heard about the 8-hour sleep beauty rule, but in this modern age of work, meetings, parties, and exercise routines, who has the time for that? Sleep may be elusive, but this is the time your body repairs, rejuvenates, and re-energizes itself.
DO get the most out of your bedtime and try out our quick overnight beauty fixes to help you wake up pretty!
Wake up to glowing skin
Us beauty girls know two pre-sleep cardinal rules: take off your makeup, and never skip skincare before sleeping. So if you want to wake up to glowing skin, be ready to stick to a routine. But what do you do if you partied all night but still need to look fresh the next day? Use beauty oils!
If the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Serum is out of your budget, try vitamin E oil, coconut oil, or argan oil under your night cream. Make sure the oil penetrates your skin completely for best results. Of course, it goes without saying that you must cleanse and exfoliate to deep clean your skin of makeup and dirt before oiling up.
Pro Tip: Look for skincare with brightening ingredients such as retinol and Vitamin C. Apply them only at night because sunlight can deactivate these components and prevent them from working to their full potential.
Also try a humidifier to moisturize and freshen your skin while you sleep. Take note though that it’s best to use one during colder months when the air is dryer, or when you sleep in an air-conditioned room.

Wake up to soft and nourished hair
While you’re sleeping is the optimum time to nourish your hair with treatment. Before going to bed, take your favorite leave-on hair conditioner or hair mask and apply it to your already washed hair while it’s still damp. Remember to only apply on the length of your hair and avoid the roots. Wrap your hair in a scarf or a soft towel towel to lock in the moisture. Rinse your hair with water when you wake up, and enjoy smooth and silky hair the rest of the day.
Pro Tip: You can also use aloe vera gel instead of leave-on conditioner.
To maintain frizz-free tresses without product, try this simple fix: switch to satin pillowcases. Frizzy hair is usually caused by tossing and turning, which causes friction. The slippery surface of satin will let your hair glide through the night without minimum damage!
Wake up to fewer blemishes
To zap a zit while you sleep (or at least minimize it), use tea tree oil, an essential oil that is may diminish acne. When applied on the skin, it acts in a number of ways including destroying skin-dwelling bacteria that cause acne. It penetrates the skin, unblocks clogged sebaceous glands, and disinfects pores. It also dries out whiteheads, pimples, zits, and blackheads.
To use, dilute pure tea tree oil in water and use a cotton bud to apply the diluted tea tree oil on your spot. The Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil is a favorite in beauty circles, and has inspired its own line of skin care products for maximum effect.
Wake up to brighter eyes
If you have stayed up all night and has a bad case of puffy eyes, you can use your sleep time to de-puff. Store your eye cream in your fridge and apply it right before going to sleep. The cool sensation feels amazing, and helps de-puff and soothe your eyes.
Pro Tip: Look for creams with caffeine in the ingredients. Caffeine will help keep the fluids in your puffy eyes from swelling! Try our list of four eye creams that make a difference.
Wake up to longer lashes
Now this isn’t an overnight fix, but if done every night while you sleep, it just might work. Try applying castor oil to your eyelashes before going to bed at night. To do so, use a clean cotton bud to dab some oil along the lash line. It’s been said to work in eight weeks or so, and there’s no harm in trying, right?
If you don't like the sticky, heavy feeling of castor oil, try out the Lash & Brow Amplifying Serum from new brand Measurable Difference (available in SM Beauty).
Sleep is where your body does most of its repair work. We still do recommend at least eight hours of sleep every night, but if you can’t, then these quick overnight beauty fixes can help! Got any of your own beauty tips? Share them in the comments!
If there’s one thing you must do for your skin, it is to wear sunscreen daily. Sunscreen is even more important than your moisturizer, because sun protection also plays a heavy hand in preventing wrinkles, fine lines, and hyper pigmentation. It keeps you healthy by preventing skin cancer, too, so there's really no excuse for you to skip this important step in your morning routine.
We've written many reviews about various products, explained the importance of applying SPF, and even listed some affordable picks to keep you protected. Today, the Project Vanity staff shares their favorites!
Liz: I'm a hardcore Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50 PA++++ fan - I'm not even going to rave about it anymore, I think we've mentioned it one too many times here already, haha.
For the body, my HG is the Nivea Extra White Firming Body Serum with SPF33 for everyday. It's super light on skin but it hydrates and protects! If I'm going to the beach or play tennis though, I'd go with something like the Nivea Sun Protect & Moisture Cream OR Invisible Spray with SPF50. Nivea has the best sunscreens for the body, IMHO!

Den: Although I'm generally sensitive to scents, I actually like the smell of sunscreen because it reminds me of summer trips to the beach! I've been using Trader Joe's Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion SPF15, which feels light and hydrating enough to skip my moisturizer. My usual face bases (Happy Skin Don't Get Mad, Get Even Liquid Foundation and Juice Beauty CC Cream) also have SPF. I don't apply anything to my hair, but I make sure to use an umbrella whenever I'm directly under the sun.

Katsy: I love Shiseido's Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion WetForce Broad Spectrum SPF 50+. I was lucky enough to get it through Sample Room and I would definitely repurchase once I run out this summer.
Marielle: I love sunblock sprays/mist, because I'm too lazy apply and feel uncomfortable when it comes to sunblock lotions. I'm currently alternating between Flawless Skin Protect Mist SPF 70 and Belo Sunexpert Transparent Mist SPF 50. I try to remember to spray every time I leave the house.
Kim: Yadah Oh My Sunblock is my fave, hands down! I cannot recommend it enough for everyday wear. For more heavy duty stuff like when I'm going swimming or hiking, I always make sure that I have a Belo SunExpert Transparent Mist SPF50 in my bag.
Rae: I'm crazy about SPF products for the face! I currently have 3 favorites: Kanebo Allie UV Long Keep Gel, Biore Aqua Rich, and Biore Watery Essence. Powder foundations look so good with Kanebo underneath. I use Biore Aqua Rich when my skin needs moisture while Biore Watery Essence is for days when I'm extra oily.
Stacie: I just finished my favorite facial sunblock, Etude House Mild Airy Finish. It dries to a matte finish, and it doesn’t have that “childhood sunblock” scent which scares me to death (don’t ask why). For my body, I’ve been regularly using the Nivea Super Water Gel. I got it online and I believe it’s not available in the PH as of the moment. It’s super light and non-sticky!
Do you apply sunscreen every day? Please say yes! What products do you rely on for daily sun protection?
Skin, skin, skin. Aside from monochromatic and uber matte colors, glowing skin is the biggest beauty trend in 2016. There are many ways to get that flawless, illuminated complexion but my top recommendation is the strange creature known as the cushion compact.
Cushion compacts came out about five years ago. They became famous in Korea, and soon enough every brand started producing their own versions. It's only last year, however, when the earnest competition for the best cushion compact began.
The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact SPF50 PA+++ (P2,900) is the Natural Skin Queen's latest foundation. Bobbi took her time creating this because she wanted to perfect the formula - she wanted coverage that looks like skin, and a glow that needs no added highlighter! Indeed, this compact delivers both.
Each compact is vacuum sealed. You can buy refills separately.
It's deceptively thin at first, but a few more pats can cover minor blemishes and even light under eye circles. It feels like nothing when worn even though it has impressive sun protection at SPF50 PA+++!
Spot-concealed then set with translucent powder, the Bobbi Brown Cushion Compact can stay put all day as long as you retouch every few hours.
The sponge it comes with is soft yet it has a very dense surface. It really is the best applicator for the cushion formula. Believe me, I've tried so many different brushes and sponges, but that specific type of sponge is the only one that can apply the foundation the way it's meant to look. Remember to clean it every week or so.
Here's how I apply Bobbi's Cushion Compact:
Staying power is about eight hours when set and retouched with powder. It's something that would work for all skin types, I feel! As for the shade, the Light to Medium looks good on me, but I would have wanted something a weeeee bit darker. Maybe I'll go for one shade down once I run out.
So there you go! I highly recommend the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact SPF50 PA+++ since it's lightweight, has great sun protection, coverage, and brightens skin impressively. It's quite pricey, but it's worth the cash if you love and trust Bobbi's foundations.
Let me know what you think in the comments!
Bobbi Brown is exclusively available at: Rustan's Makati, Rustan’s Shangri-La Plaza, Essences in Power Plant Mall, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, Rustan’s Ayala Center Cebu, SM North EDSA, SM Aura, Rustan's Alabang Town Center
I’m no stranger to the sight of various body types on women. I only have to go as far as my clan to spot the differences. On my father’s side, we’ve got tall and skinny women (some have even been known to model every now and then), while the curvier females originate from my mother’s side of the family. Taking after the latter, family reunions have always made me somewhat self-conscious to be 5’3” and plump, especially when I'm standing next to a waif-like 5’9”.
Luckily, I’ve come to realize that it’s something of an unrealistic expectation to expect myself to transform into a Kendall Jenner when I’m likely to be more of a Kim or a Khloe (to put it in Kardashian terms). My cousins and I have physiques on opposite ends of the spectrum, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

There are three body types you might fall under, based on how muscles and fat are distributed throughout your body. Understanding the key traits of each can help you figure out how to maximize your health and fitness strategy, and hopefully help you love the body you're in!
Taylor Swift (via imgur.com)
Alexa Chung (via popsugar.com)
If you can eat all you want without worrying about about putting on pounds, you're probably an Ectomorph.
Skinny is a built-in feature. These are your supermodel types, like Alexa Chung or Taylor Swift. For the ectomorph who metabolizes at top speeds, there are hardly any restrictions when it comes to eating, but trying to gain weight or muscle presents more of a challenge. Their narrow bone structure results in a lanky appearance, so working for a toned figure is key to preventing that lampayatot look.
Try: Ballet or ballet-inspired workouts. A dancer’s body is known for being lithe and limber, and the barre workouts are all about toning the muscles minus the bulk.
Michelle Obama (via harpersbazaar.com)
Michelle Rodriguez (via celebuzz.com)
If you've been called a "tomboy" and need to emphasize your curves, you're probably a Mesomorph.
These gals are lean, mean ass-kicking machines who pack on the muscles in a snap. Yes, this refers to those with athletic builds and moderate-sized bone structure, like the two famously fit Michelles: Mrs. Obama aka FLOTUS (those arms, though!) and Hollywood's favorite badass gal Rodriguez (of Fast & Furious fame). Though the mesomorph body responds well to training, it’s not all that hard to either put on weight or melt it off. That said, a balanced diet of equal parts protein, carbs, and veggies along with a healthy mix of cardio and muscle-building exercises are needed to maintain that brawny build.
Try: Kettlebell. It’s a twofer! There’s a rhythmic factor to it (that can count as cardio) and packs a decent amount of weight to make lifting a challenge.
Kate Upton (via celebuzz.com)
Sofia Vergara (via ouchpress.com)
If you've never managed to shed your baby fat and they've turned into womanly curves, you're probably an Endomorph.
Curvy is what best describes the endomorph. These are the full-figured women with the boobs and the booty to match. We’re talking about the likes of Kate Upton and Sofia Vergara. Though the shapely body is often what comes to mind with the word "sexy", the main challenge of this body type is in losing weight and keeping it off. Endomorphs particularly need to watch their diets and workout routines, like going easy on the carbs and upping the exercise to stave off that slow metabolism.
Try: Pilates. It will strengthen the core to help bring out that hourglass shape that endomorphs are known for.
There may be three main body types, but people aren’t usually stuck to one. We’re typically a combination of two body types, so you can try both recommended fitness and diet routines and find out which suits you better. Just make sure to check with a health professional first before embarking on a new diet or intensifying your exercise routine. More than helping you look your best, the main objective is for you to be healthy and fit. The right diet shouldn't leave you feeling like you're being starved, and a well-planned workout will increase your energy without over-exhausting the body.
“What do you think would be a good spin on it then?” Den asked. I waited for a few seconds before replying but was still uncertain of what to say. “I’ll get back to you in a little while. I just have to rid myself of the prejudice I have for the Kardashian-Jenners first,” was my sheepish response.
It was said in jest but definitely half-meant. I’m one of those people. You know? The ones who spew vitriol at the mere mention of the famous clan’s name. I don’t agree with many of the things they do and ideologies they pass around. But sometimes you have to take a step back to see the bigger picture. In this case, the bigger picture depicts one of them as an undeniable force in the beauty and fashion industry. Kylie Jenner wants you to want her name on your lips - and she is succeeding.
Image via thecashabeauty.com
Kylie wants beauty world domination and it's not far off the mark for her to succeed. At 18, Kylie possesses the traits (and means) to secure her longevity not only as a celebrity but also as an entrepreneur.
People who rise to fame without talent or significant societal contribution to offer often fall into oblivion quickly. Even those who are legitimately talented – remember Lady Gaga? – have an expiration date of five years. It’s difficult to stay relevant in the golden age of the Internet. Even when your name is almost synonymous with social media, you can't expect to hold people's attention forever.
Kylie’s decision to start a business while she can still leverage her fame is wise. And at the rate she’s going, it is safe to say that Kylie Cosmetics will be around for a while. Here's why!
Images via Instagram/@kyliejenner
She knows her brand like the back of her hand
Liquid lipsticks from various brands had been around and selling out before Kylie’s coveted creations came around, so one would question why she decided to jump on the bandwagon instead of doing something new. The answer is simple: She addressed a need. No, there wasn’t a need for liquid lipsticks. There was a need for more of Kylie.
The reality star grew up in front of us, and over the years we developed a feverish fascination with her and the rest of the Kardashian/Jenner clan. Kylie has the “lifestyle brand” down pat. She posts pictures of herself driving luxury cars – a Rolls Royce, a Range Rover, a Ferrari. A couple months shy of her 18th birthday, she left her mother’s house for her own $2.7 million Calabasas crib. It’s hard to chastise people who envy her life. For many, she’s living the dream.
But she also shows glimpses of normalcy like eating at fast food restaurants, hanging out with friends, and listening to her favorite music – enough for people not to get alienated from her.
In a way, she personifies the heroines of young adult dystopian novels. A girl who’s fighting against the power of parental supervision, someone trying to carve a path as a person of her own (while making wrong life decisions along the way). She’s everything most kids these days want to be. She is aspirational but still somehow relatable.
The accessibility surprisingly has not decreased her popularity. But she can’t keep Instagramming and Snapchatting all her life. So, what else can one give their fans when they’re already active on most social media platforms? A feeling of a special connection, something of yourself that they can claim they share with you or came from you. Since Kylie is no musician, dancer or author (yet), she banked on her most talked-about trait: her lips. Et voila! The #LipKitbyKylie was born.

She keeps things fresh
Liquid lipstick is not a novel idea, but selling it in a “kit” with a matching lip liner is. Kylie may not create products worthy of patents, but she innovates like a pro. Putting a twist on an existing product and making it your own is far from original, but it’s definitely a smart move.
The launch of her Lip Kits in November 2015 was a hit; and that’s putting it lightly. They sold out in 30 seconds, an occurrence that many tagged as breaking the Internet. Every time she releases a new product, her website crashes because of heavy traffic. Many people who fail to nab pieces from her website resort to overpriced versions on eBay. The demand is incredibly high, but Kylie’s more than willing to supply.

She continues to expand her beauty empire (almost at the same rapid pace as she did with her lips). After her matte offerings she ventured into glosses, whose names are “So Cute,” “Like” and “Literally” stay incredibly true to Kylie’s brand. They come in the nude colors that she became known for, and the names are catchy and very current.
On April 15, her new metallic matte line was released on KylieCosmetics.com just in time for Coachella. As usual, everything sold out within seconds of going live.
Sister Khloe wears Heir (rose gold) while BFF Jordyn Woods sports Reign (bronze). Images via Instagram/@kyliecosmetics
While the metallic matte liquid lipstick isn’t a new concept– Dose of Colors released a limited edition collection last year – Kylie’s take on it still carries a lot of impact. One, because they’re hers. Once you see the colors, you’d immediately assume that she’s the mastermind behind the line.
Two, the timing is impeccable. She’s the only one who carries a matte metallic liquid lipstick line right now, which makes the collection even more covetable. (And it doesn’t hurt that they’re also really flattering to wear, as you can see in the photos.)
Just like any other smart entrepreneur, she’s striking while the iron is hot. She’s already starting to make new products fans should keep an eye out for. Kylie has reportedly filed to trademark the names Kyshadow, Kyliner, and Kybrow.

She knows where her audience is and markets her products like a pro
Kylie is well-versed in the language of social media. And thus, she markets her products solely on her online platforms. Announcements of new products and stock arrivals are done on Instagram and Snapchat, and dates are always kept secret in order to keep people on their toes.
Plus, she paces her releases at good intervals - not so far between that people would get tired of waiting and in limited quantities to ensure that people would find the need to get their hands on them as soon as they can.
Kylie also knows that apart from her peers, who would regard the product as a bragging right, women who are in the same age range as her sisters follow her as well. So her products are packaged in such a way that they’re sophisticated but also a bit edgy. Her products are also priced smartly in that they're not as expensive as luxury brands, but not cheap enough to lose the status symbol.

She’s serious about her venture
While she does have a fashion line with her sister Kendall, Kylie Cosmetics is entirely her own. She claims she didn’t ask for any of her sisters’ input on the venture because she wants everything to be “organic” and to come from her.
And although you can’t accurately gauge her level of interest in her venture by simply looking at her posts, it will not be wrong to say that she’s quite invested in it. Put it this way: her sisters have Kardashian Beauty, but they rarely talk about it. They were even sued because they don’t care to mention the line on social media. Kylie, on the other hand, promotes her products constantly and wears them proudly. She also visits the lab where her products are made and sometimes takes a hand at making a few of them. While at the packaging section, she signs boxes as a bonus. She’s a hands-on businesswoman.
***
With all of that said, have I become a konvert? Well, I will still not worship at Kylie Jenner’s feet, but I have come to respect her hustle. Sure, she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, and this might just be one of her many fixations that will fade away over time. But I can’t really blame her for something she had no power over; the money was already there when she came into the world. I can, however, commend her for the way she tries to create a name for herself as an entrepreneur.
“If I could do whatever I wanted, I would have a successful makeup line, and I would want to hopefully start more businesses, and just be, like, a businesswoman,” Kylie said when asked about her dreams for the future. “And then, hopefully, I’ll go off the map.”
Have you ever wondered why your conditioner runs out faster than your shampoo? Does your face feel too greasy after using moisturizer, even though all the reviews you've read rave about its texture? Or have you foregone buying a new eye cream because it’s expensive and runs out easily?
Don’t worry, we’ve all dealt with the same problems before, and they can easily be solved when you know exactly how much product you need per use. Here's our quick list!
Eye cream
Squeeze out two pea-sized amounts and use one per eye. The skin around your eye area is think and delicate so make sure to dab and not to drag!
Facial moisturizer
Apply a dollop about the size of one cherry tomato (or about the half of a regular tomato) all over your face and neck. Pat until fully absorbed.
image via kixcereal.com
Serum
Serums are pricey, but luckily you only need a small amount to get its full benefits. Pump out product equivalent to the size of a raisin. Any more than that and you'll get too greasy!
Exfoliator
Be careful not to go overboard with this product, as you don't want to end up rubbing yourself raw. Dispense no more product than the size of a 10-peso coin to cover all the nooks and crannies of your face.
Cleanser
The amount of facial wash you need will depend on the kind of product you're using. Foamy cleansers would be puffed up by air, so you'll need to pump a strawberry-sized amount to lather all over your face. If you're using a clear gel or cream type, get the same amount as you would use to exfoliate.
Sunscreen
For your daily dose of protection, use about a teaspoonful for your face and neck, plus another teaspoon per exposed arm or leg. If you're in a swimsuit, however, you'll need full body protection or about as much sunscreen that would fill a shot glass. Make sure to reapply as much after a few hours to keep your skin continually protected!
Mousse: The amount of hair product you need really depends on how much hair you actually have and the kind of style you want to achieve. For creating that slightly volumized, rolled-out-of-bed look however, dispensing mousse the size of an egg is enough to apply to your roots.
Shampoo AND Conditioner
Yes, you're supposed to just use as much conditioner as you do shampoo! Short-haired gals need about a teaspoon while long-haired ladies (with locks grazing the bra strap) should use a tablespoon. It may not seem like much, but remember that shampoo should be focused on your scalp while conditioner should only be applied to your tips. Of course, you may need more if your hair is Rapunzel-long!
Use these tips as guidelines rather than strict rules on how to use your products. After all, a lot still depends on what you're using, plus your skin or hair's actual needs. If you're still unsure, start with a small amount and add in small increments until it feels right.
So, have you been using the right amount? Which products have you (unknowingly) been scrimping on or using too much of?
After reading Liz’s article on whether it’s still worth splurging on expensive makeup, I checked my stash for which makeup items I don’t tend to spend much on. I found that for each makeup category, I own an even mix of drugstore and high-end stuff - except for one: lip liner.
Lip liners are a must-have if you want your lipstick to stay on all day with no bleeding or feathering. Color-coordinate your shades, or choose a lighter or darker base to change your lipstick color! I find that with lip liners, a significant jump in price usually doesn’t mean a proportionate increase in quality. It’s easy to find really good ones under P200.
Here are some of the best ones we’ve found!
Essence Lip Liner (P99 for 1g, department stores)
Lip liners from Essence are the creamiest I’ve tried so far. They are so creamy that I use it more as a lipstick than a lip liner! If you prefer zero tugging with your lip liners, these are the ones to get.
There’s a good number of shades to choose from that would complement most lipstick colors in your collection. Two of my favorite shades in this line are 07 Cute Pink (medium blue-based pink) and 06 Satin Mauve (a my-lips-but-better pink mauve).
Etude House Soft Touch Auto Lipliner (P98 for 0.2g, department stores)
These lip liners apply tuggier compared to the Essence ones, but they’re still convenient to put on. These have a cult-following in matte lipstick universe. As a self-confessed matte lipstick addict, I often get asked if I’ve already tried these as an all-over lip color.
I love that it’s in a retractable pencil format. My only gripe with this is that it only has 0.2 grams of product. When you extend the whole thing, it’s barely even an inch long. This is better used just for lining the edge of the lips.
There are 5 shades in the collection: #01 Soft Rose, #02 Pink Beige, #03 Milky Brown, #04 Real Rose, #05 Natural Berry. Of particular note is Milky Brown. If you find brown lip colors to be very intimidating, we highly recommend the latter.
Nichido Lip Pencil (P100 for 1.14g, department stores)
Some of the best from local brand options are Nichido’s lip pencils. The product is not exactly creamy, but it’s easy to apply.
I tried to hunt down the complete shade selection but in all of the stores I went to, most of the shades are out of stock. This isn’t surprising, because I would buy at least two, if I find a store that carries Nichido’s classic nude pink liner in Rosette.
Another shade to check out is Spice. It's a deep brown-tinged red that make my teeth look white despite the warm hue.
Tony Moly Easy Touch Auto Lip Liner (P178 for 0.2g, Tony Moly)
This lip liner comes in a unique, retractable dual-ended pencil with a lip brush on the other end. The product is so creamy that it can be sheered out with the lip brush it comes with. It's perfect for achieving the stained lips look, particularly if you use 03 Red Wine or 05 Red. The other three shades in the collection are: 01 Rose Beige, 02 Rose Pink, and 04 Brown.
I really love the formula of these, but same problem as with Etude House, the pencils only have 0.2 grams of product.
So, you’ve bought one of these lipsticks and you found it too dry for your liking? Try lining your lips with it instead!
The best thing about this line is that there are 19 shades to choose from. If you’re the type who wants your lip liner to exactly match your lipstick, you have better chances of doing so from Menow’s offerings.
I hope this helps! If you know of any good but inexpensive lip liners, please share them in the comments!
One of the things I love to read and say is that we are all beautiful just the way we are. If I have to be absolutely honest though, this is not true. We are not all beautiful - at least according to society's standards on physical beauty - and we are wasting our time fooling ourselves into believing otherwise.
These days, we hear soothing messages that it's ok to be fat. It's okay to have bad skin. It's ok to not be perfect. Even so, why are so many of us still experiencing self-loathing and a desire to spend, spend, spend time and money on the next big thing that can promise us what we most desire?
Because of recent weight gain and the fact that I'm losing more hair due to stress, I have been feeling especially shitty about how I look like lately. I would stare at the mirror and feel a cold sweat as I ask myself: How did this happen? Don't I exercise enough? Don't I eat right? Wait, where did that pimple come from? If I were prettier I would be more successful. I wish I hadn't eaten the chocolate last night.
I have always thought that I've accepted my lot in life. Short of surgery, I will never look like a model. I can use all the expensive makeup and skincare in the world and read all the self-help I could but this is my face. I am objectively unattractive the more I gain weight, too.
I was struck the other day when XiaXue, a famous Singaporean lifestyle blogger, shared a photo of 16-year old self beside her current face. She has always been open about her plastic surgeries in the past so this did not come as a surprise. She said, "Whatever happened to loving yourself just the way you are born? That's so stupid I can't even. Great for you if you can find inner peace with your ugliness and all, but not everyone can."
That was mean, but the last part hit home.
I have not yet found inner peace, until I read this article by XOJane. It says that it's ok to be ugly because there are other more important things to worry about and accomplish.
It's something I have been mulling for a while. What if it didn't matter at all whether you are beautiful or not?
I find the idea difficult to accept because I know for a fact that looking physically attractive helps careers and relationships more than being downright ugly and poorly groomed. I can't imagine myself going to meet clients with zero makeup and an ill-chosen outfit the same way I can't imagine going to the same meeting with zero preparation for my pitch.
In the ideal world, society will place little value on physical beauty. We would all be free to go on with our lives, showing our competence and genius unhampered by the obsession to achieve physical perfection.
But we do not live in an ideal world.
The current zeitgeist on beauty is that everybody is already beautiful, so we should be happy with how we look. There is another movement saying being beautiful should not matter at all. But this is my proposition: beauty is useful, so we should use it as a tool to get ahead. It is not the ultimate goal. It is a stepping stone we could all take advantage of to do greater things, whatever they may be.
We do not need to achieve absolute beauty like XiaXue - surgery, makeup, unhealthy eating and all - but we can not discard beauty as an archaic concept like the XoJane author did. (Unless human beings shed their mortal coil and our consciousness gets uploaded to a computer or something).
We can try to look our most beautiful to give ourselves the best chances in love and life. For some it is easier, for others it may take a lot of work. The first step is accepting that you're ugly (if you are) and then doing something about it if you are so inclined.
If you don't want to, that's cool too. Different things matter to different people, and you have the absolute right to decide how you want your face and your body to look like. There are consequences, of course - let's stop pretending that there aren't - but as long as you recognize them and own your decision, then the self-loathing will stop.
Isn't that what we want, more than the latest slimming trend or the hottest contour kit? To just stop hating ourselves for things that may be within or beyond our control. The ownership of our imperfections and inactions is the way to inner peace. You have to Frank Underwood the shit out of your decisions so that you can live with them.
Thoughts? Are you happy with how you look? Or you DGAF?
Maybe you're single and getting your first paycheck or freshly promoted with a significant increase in your salary. You are flush with cash and the world is your oyster. This is pretty much the best time to hit up the shops and spoil yourself rotten on a regular basis. This is the era of Treat Yo’ Self.
But while it’s well and good to pamper yourself with some well-deserved retail therapy, it is just as important not to go overboard and purchase everything you see. It's okay to have lemmings or things that you want because they’re trendy or much-raved about, but it's not healthy (emotionally and financially) to constantly indulge those urges.
As fellow beauty addicts, we know it can be a real struggle (especially when the bright red SALE sign looks more like a green light to go shopping) so we're sharing some of our favorite tips for kicking the habit of impulse-buying everything in our path.
Is there such a thing as too much lipstick??? (via nymag.com)
Impose a shopping ban but keep your limitations realistic
Lead in with simply going cold turkey. Depending on your level of self-discipline, this can work like a charm. I know a lot of people who impose shopping bans for Lent, but you can also do it in favor of contributing to a cause or a charity to help you stay motivated. Another option is to hold back from mid-year sales and only allow yourself to splurge on holiday collections, which has so many gift sets and value sets that make the wait so worthwhile.
If you're used to buying something every week, a year-long ban may make you too impatient or leave you feeling deprived and depressed. So start with an easier goal, like only shopping at the end of the month. The more you reach your goals, the more better you'll feel about them and increasing the spacing between your bans.

Know when to shop
Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to shopping. Holiday sales are common but some brands also have post-holiday sales to offload their leftover holiday collections. If you’re patient enough to sit out the holiday shopping, you’ll be rewarded with a lot of half-priced items.
Pro tip: If you have a particular product or brand that you want to shop for, make sure to follow their social media pages for sale updates. It also pays to be kind - leave your number with your suki at the makeup counter so she can text you when the item you've been eyeing goes on sale, and maybe she can even reserve stocks for you!
Yups, she's probably right behind you. (via gobankingrates.com
Don’t always listen to the SA
Remember: SA stands for Sales Assistant/Attendant. They are ultimately there to make a sale, so don’t get roped into a purchase just because the SA praised how the makeup you tried on looks "so great" on you. Or worse yet, don't be feel like you have to buy just because the SA appears intimidating and you’re too embarrassed to say no.
Make sure to do a bit of research before you purchase, especially the product you're interested in is a bit on the pricey side. Project Vanity has growing database of no-BS reviews, and if what you're looking for isn't available, send us a message and we'll look into it!

Don’t deprive yourself, but be budget-conscious
Self-pity is the enemy, especially if you like to engage in retail therapy. Allow yourself to buy a few big-ticket items once in a while with a budget specially allotted for the purchase, rather than giving yourself free reign to binge-buy cheap items whenever you feel like. Even small, under P200 purchases add up in the long run, and simply leave you with subpar products that aren't even worth the small investment.
While there’s no shortage of new and noteworthy drugstore brands, think about how much you'd be willing to spend for a particular product and find the best performer for your budget. Get the drugstore version if it functions well enough, but if it'll make you happy and suit your needs best, it may better to invest in the pricier option. It’s a happy compromise that won’t leave you feeling empty-handed, literally.
Go on a media blackout
Is 50% of the internet devoted to marketing? I can’t confirm that, though it sometimes feels like it. All I have to do is go online to get tempted, especially with the Instagram feeds of the beauty gurus I follow. It’s wave after wave of the latest and greatest products, and it makes me feel things that I didn’t even know about only moments ago. So when I catch myself on the road to temptation, it helps to stay away from social media for a few hours.

Whenever I'm at the mall, there are stores that I can't resist going into for a quick browse. I feel that pull whenever I pass SM Beauty, Watsons, Beauty Bar, Korean beauty stores, and Healthy Options. Wait, what? You might think Healthy Options is an odd one out but it really isn’t!
Ever since I discovered that they carried the Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque, I’ve been scouring their racks every time I get the chance for more MakeupAlley or Amazon top-rated items. So far, I’ve not been disappointed! And today I’ll share some of my favorite beauty finds from Healthy Options and some others that I can’t wait to get my hands on.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque (MakeupAlley: 4.1/5, Amazon: 4.4/5)
The first thing I said when I applied this on were these exact words: “This feels like masking with toothpaste.”
The masque smells very minty and feels very cool so it was quite enjoyable to have it on my face for 10 minutes. When I washed it off, I was rewarded with deeply cleansed skin that was matte and brightened! This is my go-to cleansing mask nowadays, and I also use this to spot treat pesky pimples overnight. For P395, you get a generous amount of 227g (8oz.) I have about 25% of the product left but I’ll definitely be repurchasing once I run out.
Witch Hazel often pops up in the best ingredients lists for fighting excessive sebum production and pimples. As part of your regular skincare routine, it is often lauded for its pore-tightening benefits and ability to reduce inflammation, which is exactly why it works for those two purposes.
My pores went back to their normal, rather enlarged size after I ran out of Avene’s Gentle Toner. Not wanting to spend more than a thousand bucks on a new bottle, I searched for a cheaper pore refining option and found this in MakeupAlley. True to its claim, it really does shrink the size of my pores and is effective against drying out pimples as well! It’s very cheap – 59ml for P75 and 475 ml for P300 - so I’m happy to find an alternative that works. If you haven’t had any past experience with witch hazel, I recommend getting the travel size first just so you can check your sensitivity! You might not enjoy the scent of this (smells like vodka) so try out the smaller version so it won’t be such a commitment.

Alba Botanica Terra Tints (MakeupAlley: 3.4/5, Amazon: 3.3/5)
It used to be that these Terra Tints were the only makeup one could find in Healthy Options, so many of us who love shopping there have probably grabbed one at some point! These all-mineral lip tints are moisturizing and has SPF15. Blaze is a pretty shade that leaves a hint of cherry red on the lips.
Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay (MakeupAlley: 4.4/5, Amazon: 4.4/5)
Another one from the masking department, this Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask throws away all signs of modesty by dubbing the product as the World’s Most Powerful Facial. This product is just 100% natural calcium bentonite clay in powder form, which is a famous treatment for oily acne prone skin. To use, simply mix with equal parts of water or apple cider vinegar, spread on your face, and then rinse off with warm water. For P429, you get a whopping one pound of product!
I like how clean and lifted my face feels after using this. I did a half-face test for this once, and I noticed that my skin felt smoother and my pores appeared to shrink (albeit temporarily) as if I applied a silicone primer. While I don’t reach out for this as often as Queen Helene because of the prep process, it really works wonderfully to keep you oil-free for the day and is definitely bang for your buck!
I recently developed a fascination for oils and what they can do for me beauty-wise. I’ve tried almond oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and argan oil so far. Now I’m itching to try jojoba oil next. Jojoba oil is often called as the oil that combats oil. Because it closely resembles human sebum, when used as a moisturizer, it can modulate sebum production to make you less oily.
Jojoba is also said to be a powerful acne inhibitor. Not only can it deep cleanse the skin, but it has potent anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties as well. On top of that, it has been shown that this oil enhances the skin’s ability to heal and regenerate. Talk about a multitasker!
This costs a little over P500 a bottle.

Bright and colorful eyeshadow is an acquired taste as much as it is an acquired skill. Not everyone will like the look on themselves, but I believe it's fun to wear once in a while to parties and events. Anyone can pull it off as long as they have neutral blending shades to tone down that flash of eye color.
If color is your jam whenever you're playing with eyeshadow, I think you'll love the Sleek Makeup i-Divine Original Palette (P695). It has 12 smooth and creamy eyeshadows with London-themed shades so vibrant that you don't even need primer. Seriously! All the shades in this palette are solid in a single swipe.
These eyeshadows have a metallic finish. It's not really on trend at the moment seeing as this palette first came out many years ago, but it would make for a fun look anyway. I recommend wearing a single shade (perhaps TheThames or E10) winged out with strong black eyeliner to look chic and edgy!
There's also a nice collection of neutrals in the bottom row although I would hardly call them that. They're quite bright and strong for traditional neutral eye makeup - still very pretty nonetheless.
Top L-R: Black Cab, Royal, London Rain, The Thames, E10, Hyde Park / Bottom L-R: Cream Tea, London Eye, Big Ben, Penny Farthing, Sterling, Banksy
As for me, I decided to wear Banksy on the inner part of my lid blended into Hyde Park on the outer part of my lid. Then I applied a touch of Sterling on my crease to bring the look together. I finished it with an orange red lipstick (Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Sunset Orange) because why not, hm? It makes for great contrast.
The downside is that since the powder shadows are so smooth, they are quite fragile. You'll see that Black Cab is broken even though I was careful about storing this palette.
Overall, I recommend grabbing the Sleek Makeup i-Divine Original Palette if you're into eyeshadows. The price is nice at P695 for 12 colors of this caliber. If you're not digging the shades and finish though, Sleek has several more palettes in the neutral and smoky color range, and even in matte finishes! Check them out in Zalora.
Lemme know what you think, as always! Have you tried the palettes from Sleek Makeup yet? I'm a huge fan of the Contouring Blush Palette!
Sleek Makeup is available inside SM Beauty Stores in SM Makati and Mall of Asia.
White button-down shirts don’t get a bad rep, but they’re also not the first type of clothing that comes to mind when one thinks of “fun, playful outfits.” They’re usually reserved for corporate settings and other rather formal occasions. Yawn!
They don’t need to get reserved only for office wear, though. Here are five ways you can transform a boring basic into something fun, chic, and fantastic!
Olivia Palermo matches two basics: the button-down shirt and the LBD! (Images via instyle.com and stylecracker.com)
Pair your dress shirt with a dress
There’s a certain charm to pieces that marry masculine and feminine aesthetics. And that’s what pairing your shirt with a dress achieves. The combination of the tailored cut of the shirt and the soft lines of the dress exudes sophistication with just the right amount of edginess. Depending on the dress you put over it, this outfit can go from a brunch date with your girls to red-carpet-ready.

Crop it up
Wanna wear a crop top but don’t want to show your belly? Wear your button-down underneath it! Styling it this way also transforms your outfit into an interesting formal-yet-fun combination. Pair it with the right skirt or trousers, and you might even get away with wearing it to work. Or put on some denim and start running errands in style.

Partner crisp with comfy
Nothing says laid-back more than denim and sneakers. Take what’s usually reserved for boardrooms to the street by pairing your crisp, white shirt with your favorite jeans and your comfiest sneakers. The combination of opposite styles gives the impression that you know your shit, but you’re not stiff. Wear it on a Sunday outing or a casual date.

Under an overall
Mix nostalgic with chic by pairing your shirt with overalls. Go for a form-fitting pair instead of a loose, baggy one for a streamlined, sleeker version of your favorite ‘90s outfit. Pair it with flats for a day at the museum, or with heels for a night out with friends.

Play with patterns and have fun with texture
Make a plain top more interesting by combining it with busier pieces. The contrast between the crisp button-down and the ruggedness of leather makes their pairing a delight to the sight. They strike a balance between chic and offbeat. You can also pair your button-down with a patterned bottom for a girl boss on the weekend appeal. It’s the perfect way to look put-together in a non-dressy, fun kind of way.
What's your favorite way to wear your white button-downs? Will you be trying any of these news styling tips to switch up you look?
If there's anything I've learned about bags so far, it's that I shouldn't settle for ones of poor quality. Price isn't the most important factor. As long as the bag can last me for years in terms of make and style, how cheap or expensive it is is beside the point.
I choose bags more wisely now compared to before. I suppose it comes with age! I used to love cute bags but I always get so disappointed when they break or look beat up after just a few uses. These days I'm happier with bags that may look a bit stodgy since I know I can depend on them for years.
The latest bag in my collection is this black tote from Kipling. It's large yet lightweight, perfect for bringing clothes for tennis and for traveling! It's also a great shopping tote since I can attach a long strap if I want to carry it on my shoulders.
It looks like a pretty sturdy bag so I'm happy to have something so convenient and useful that I know I'll be able to use for a long, long time.
If you're interested in browsing Kipling bags as well, come check out their new concept store in Mega Atrium! Inside the House of Kipling, guests are greeted with warm, homey interiors made from an eclectic mix of natural and clean textures, surrounded by the signature tile wall with the iconic monkey print. The color palette plays along the shades of taupe and greys, plus an occasional pop of orange and pink.
Do visit Kipling's 7th shop carrying the global look at the 3rd level of Mega Atrium, SM Megamall. Catch the opening on April 20 (today!) as there is a 50% price off on the Spring 2016 collection if you are a Kipling Loyalty Cardholder or one of the first 100 customers of the day.
I was shopping in Watsons a few weeks ago when I spotted what is possibly the cheapest BB cream (per purchase anyway) available here in the country. I normally wouldn't go for something so sketchy-sounding but I couldn't deny my curiosity! I got one since it was so cheap anyway.
The iWhite Korea BB. Holic Everyday BB Cream (P24.50) promises makeup and skincare in one, with 10 plant extracts to sweeten the deal. It comes in a sachet split into two, with 4ml of product in total. I'd say it's good for about four to six uses depending on how much you actually squeeze out. Just to give you an idea, an average BB cream tube or bottle would have 30ml of product inside. If you bought this BB cream in a bottle, it would still be pretty cheap at only P184.
So how is it?
Contrary to my low expectations, it wasn't bad at all! The texture is very light and watery, like a CC cream. It has a glowy, sheer finish, but as you can see in the video it covered up most of my blemishes! It evened out my skin nicely without looking like I caked on product. It's pretty hydrating, too. I know it would be hard to believe which is why I took a video. :P Here's how it looks like!
The catch: it might not suit oily skin due to how moisturizing it is and the shiny finish; it's really more of a CC cream than a traditional BB cream. Think cushion compacts. This could easily be the liquid inside the cushion! It doesn't stay on particularly well by itself, but you could definitely extend wear time up to five hours with a good powder and retouching.
It also has this fruity-vanilla scent which I am not a fan of. It doesn't smell horrible, but it is an off-putting scent in a makeup product.
Overall, I recommend trying out the iWhite Korea BB. Holic Everyday BB Cream if you're on a tight budget and want to experience the feel of CC creams or cushion compacts without investing on a full bottle. Makeup snobs may turn their noses up at it but it actually looks good considering the price. It's perfect for students and makeup beginners who just need a base that brightens and evens out dry to combi skin!
What do you think? Does this look like something you'd buy?
Here at Project Vanity, we love trying out all things Korean. From their makeup to their skincare and even their favorite shows! This time, we’re trying out K-idol Jung So-min’s makeup application technique called “Topping Makeup”.
Her On-Style’s “Get It Beauty” episode featured the actress applying her own makeup using the technique for an interview shoot. Because her makeup artists were late, she did a quick take on the No-Makeup Makeup look using just three products – stick foundation, liquid concealer, and cream blush. The key was to apply all the products on the face before blending everything together!
I don't have any Korean products at the moment but let’s see if we can do “Topping Makeup” as effortlessly as she made it look with the products I have.
Step 1: Frame your face. Using a creamy foundation, swipe on the areas that you don’t contour to bring them forward – the center of the forehead, the sides of the cheeks, and on the chin. I'm using L’Oreal True Match Genius 4-in-1 Primer + Foundation + Concealer + Powder in Shade G2 Gold Porcelain.
Step 2: Using a liquid concealer (or a lighter shade foundation that doesn’t suit you since getting a summer tan), place dots on the areas you normally conceal: under the eyes, sides of the nose and mouth, and chin. You can also highlight by dotting on the bridge of the nose. I used Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation SPF25 PA++ in Shade 013.
Step 3: Get a buffing brush and lightly swirl over the cream blush. Dab on your cheeks to leave the product behind in a circular shape. I applied Bourjois Cream Blush in Shade 02 on my cheeks.
At this point, none of the products I've applied has been blended in yet so yeah, it's going to look kinda funny.
Step 4: With your foundation, concealer and blush all on your face, you can now blend, blend, blend! Use a clean buffing brush to blend everything together.
Step 5: Using the same cream blush, pat lightly all over your eyelids as well as on your lips for a natural looking flush.
Step 6: Curl your lashes and you’re good to go!
One thing we noticed from the original video – she didn’t do her eyebrows! So we’re adding it as an optional step to our list.
Before
After
This is an easy look that you can do in under five minutes! What do you think of “Topping Makeup”? Will you try it for yourself?
