Read my (liquid) lips

The beauty world has gotten so crazy for liquid lipsticks, they’ve basically changed the way we apply color to our pouts. It may have started out as trend but now we’ve come to expect certain standards for what a good lipstick should be: highly pigmented, easy to apply, comfortable to wear, formulated to last. It was only a matter of time before Make Up For Ever Cosmetics jumped in with their own formula, and we gotta say, we’re super excited! Pricey but incredibly pigmented, the new Artist Liquid Matte lipsticks ($20) come in six gorgeous shades that range from neutral nudes to cheeky corals. Promising an ultra lightweight feel with moisturizing properties from avocado oil and beeswax, these liquid matte lippies claim to be long-lasting and comfortable on your lips as well. Hoping these babies to drop in the PH very soon!

Bringing back 90s beauty

No brown lips here - it’s all about the crazy. A Kickstarter campaign has been set up to fund the creation of real live Lisa Frank makeup, striking a chord with 90s girls who adored the brand’s bright colors and whimsical creatures! Indie brand Glamour Dolls Makeup and YouTube guru Kandee Johnson are working hard to make the colors as vibrant as we remember them.

Expect to see prancing unicorns, dancing dolphins, and cute golden retrievers on the product packaging. So far, it looks like the brand’s lineup includes: eyeliner, vegan leather makeup bag, lip balm, highlighter, and matte mousse! The campaign has been fully funded with but donations are still welcome until April.  Of course, you’ll want to use matching tools such as the Lisa Frank Angled Blush Brush, which is now available for preorder for just $5.

How ‘bout a hoola?

There’s no denying it - Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer is a cult-favorite and classic piece in most women’s makeup bags. With its signature box packaging and Hawaiian-inspired look, this warm brown, pigmented powder is great for giving you that sun-kissed look... most of the time. Let’s face it: for paler complexions, finding a bronzer that works is already quite a challenge! To address this, Benefit Cosmetics has taken the challenge of making the perfect bronzer for me and my fellow “kutis bondpaper” girls with Benefit Hoola Lite! This paler, cooler version of the classic allows it to blend more naturally with fairer skin tones, but since it comes in the same packaging, make sure to double-check that you have the correct product. So far, it’s exclusively available at Ulta (but we’re excitedly waiting for this to hit PH shores) and retails for $29.

Another Kardashian joins the beauty world

Are they all trying to keep up with each other? Kylie, Kourtney, Khloe, and even Kim will have create some space for Kanye West as he gets into the beauty industry. Though technically not a Kardashian, Kim's husband has already put in the paperwork for Donda Cosmetics, a new beauty line named after his deceased mother. The company intends to offer skin care, hair styling products, and even makeup, putting them in direct competition with several members of the family. Caitlyn Jenner has done collaborations with MAC while Kendall is the face for Estée Edit.

Could it be? Is it she?

We’ve been dreaming about L’Oreal Italy’s exclusive Beauty and the Beast-inspired collection since it first hit our feeds but dealing with international online purchasing and shipping fees isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. There’s a chance for all of us to get into the magic though – the eagle-eyed PV girls spotted a vv important sneak peek on SM Megamall’s Instagram feed. Happy Skin has been secretly working on an extra special, limited edition Beauty and the Beast lip kit, and it will be hitting their stores pretty soon!

The brand has been mum about its surprise release as of press time but it looks like we’ll want to get our hands on this pretty peachy-pink duo. Happy Skin had just recently released their very first liquid lip/pencil liner sets, and we’re honestly impressed by their performance so far. Can’t wait to try this rosy new addition!

True Stories: Is it possible for a woman to have both a family and a career?

$

0

Now is a great time to be alive and a woman! More than ever, women can now pursue more career options and be successful in their chosen fields. However, the cultural expectation and pressure to stay home and put their families first and above all else still exist. Is it actually possible to have the best of both worlds? Can you have both a family and a career? We asked nine women to share their thoughts, experiences, and tips for achieving that delicate balance act.

Rosa

Rosa

Rosa Lapeña Concepcion, foreign exchange trader/violinist (married, with one child)

I believe having a family and career is possible but constant communication, humility, and teamwork are required. When you are a man with a wife and children, society does not question whether having both a family and career is possible. You're expected to provide for your family through your career, and at the same time be a good husband and father. However, when you are a wife and a mother, people question whether you can raise children and build a career at the same time! This interview is proof of that. Many people still believe that the woman's place is at home, and so when a mother decides to work, they think that home life will suffer. But this does not have to be the case, because the family is a TEAM. The woman does not have to be the sole child-rearer, just as the man does not have to be the sole breadwinner. Thus, both the husband and wife can have careers if both are also active participants in running the household.

In my case, I am so fortunate to be married to a man who is even better than I am at domestic matters, especially cooking! He has always been supportive of my decision to work. We delayed having children for more than a year because we wanted to ensure that we were first both settled in our jobs. While expecting our first child, and we decided that I will keep on working after giving birth. It’s difficult but I know that I can fully depend on the support of my husband. We will take care of ourselves, each other, and our son together, and of course we will have help from our relatives and friends. I do believe that it takes a village to raise a child, and also that no man (or woman) is an island.

Crickette

Crickette

Crickette Inserto, dentist

Of course it is possible. I’ve seen my parents do it. I grew up seeing my mom working full time, managing the house, and even having time to volunteer as parent representative when we were in school. Now, I also see it with my mom friends. Of course it's all about the makeup of the person as well because I see some struggling to cope. But that I see people breaking boundaries is proof that it can be done.

As for having kids, I’ve always believed that I was meant to be a mother but sadly I am reproductively challenged. I don't know if I will have the chance but I do want to be a mother because, as I always say, sayang naman all the work that I've been doing if it's just for me. I don't think that the sum total of a woman's life should include motherhood but I'd love the chance. If not, my nieces and nephews will have an overeager tita!

Bianca Camille Lopez, soprano (single)

Someone once told me, nowadays it’s not about work life-balance. It’s about work-life integration, and I agree. It’s not about getting things done in the least possible amount of time but choosing which tasks are the most meaningful ones and the most worthy of your time. You can have both but there are sacrifices to be made. You must decide which activities are important, be it about family or career.

Tana and Cara (photo credit: Happy Fingers Photography)

Tana Tan, stay-at-home mom (married, with two children)

For me it was a difficult realization that it isn't possible to have both at the same time while my kids are small. I tried juggling working and home/child management but I did not have anyone who can cover for me while I am away and watch the kids (yaya problems, no nearby relatives, etc). So I had to make that choice to stay with them for now. It's very isolating and I needed an outlet, so I started an IG shop. At least it's from home, I control my time and I don't need to be away from the kids.

Cara Manglapus, jazz singer (engaged, with one child)

It's a tricky question to answer but I'd say it's possible to have both depending on a number of factors, such as field of work and how much help you have. As a freelancer, it is possible to have both in my particular case because I can choose when to work. This is a privilege I thank my fiancé for everyday because he has stepped up to the plate by being our family provider, so my career is more of a personal ambition and to have personal fulfillment. At the moment I am mostly a stay-at-home mom because our daughter is less than a year old and is 100% breastfed and I believe that no one can nurture a child's development like a parent, but I do get to take certain work opportunities now and then. I have every intention of fully going back to work eventually so that I can be a strong, independent role model for my kids.

Andrea and Fleur

Andrea and Fleur

Andrea Monica Gonzales, lawyer (single)

It's possible. I see many lady lawyers doing it and even slaying at it. However, I've learned from observing them that having "work-life balance” does NOT mean doing everything all at the same time. It means being wise enough to know what to prioritize at a particular instance. There are things that you need to say no to in order to make way for more important things. Also, it means being prepared to make up for the things that you set aside in the meantime. In short, it takes a lot of work and decision-making so you have to know your values so you can set your priorities.

Fleur Rubio-Sombrero, engineer and blogger (married, with one child)

Gone are the days when women need to choose between having a career and raising a family. She can definitely do both! I have been in the corporate world ever since my daughter was born six years ago but no one can ever say that I am not doing a good job being her mother. I get to bathe her, teach her homework, help her in her school projects, prepare her daily baon for school, and spend quality time together everyday. We go out on mother daughter dates. I am always with her whenever she's sick. I am there in almost every celebration and milestone so far. I do that all in between meetings, client calls, ManCom reports, site visits and managing a 40-man staff. Prioritizing and time management are the key.

Author Annabel Crabb once said, "The obligation for working mothers is a very precise one: the feeling that one ought to work as if one did not have children while raising one's children as if one did not a job." I am not saying that it is easy - it's not but it's very doable. The rewarding feeling for each role is very different. Working moms just need to prioritize, do time management, get help from her spouse or family members, and have a bottle of wine in the fridge. Haha!

Martha Sta. Barbara, entrepreneur and blogger (engaged)

Old adage says you can only focus on one but it's possible to have both. After all, both are important aspects of an individual's life so why choose only one? Balance is key. Set aside a day and time for work and for family. But career can easily eat up family time so one has to learn to say no to work. At the end of the day, there will always be more work to be done but your children will only be young once and your husband, family, and friends won't be there forever.

Vivian Tan-dela Cruz, lawyer and blogger (married, with two children and expecting a third)

Of course you can have both but your love for one will never be equal to the other. No matter how you look at it, while you can have it all, priorities will be set. In my case, I put more value in my family life than in my career. My family will always come first, and they know this. On the other hand, my family also knows how important my career is to me. It means the world to me that my family understands and respects what an important aspect of my life my career is.

So I say yes – yes, you can “have it all” as a woman with a family and a career. Balance and compromise is key. And I mean balance and compromise within yourself. You have to learn to maintain that delicate balance of attention that you need to allocate for your family on one side and your career on the other. You also have to learn to compromise with yourself, and not feel guilty about it. There will be times when one will need to take a back seat to the other simply because the circumstances call for it. It doesn’t speak of what you value more. It is just a matter of owning your identity as a working mother/wife/daughter/sister. I am truly blessed that my family has my back when they know I need to concentrate more on work, and I am doubly blessed that I belong in a work organization that also recognizes and celebrates the importance of family.

Do you think it's possible to balance both? And if you have both career and family, what are your tips for making it work? Share with us in the comments below!

How to wean yourself off your foundation addiction

While last year’s trend was covering up every flaw and pore, this year is all about lighter bases that show some skin! In the eternal summer that we experience here in the PH, we could really do without that heavy feeling that normally comes with using a full coverage foundation. While it makes us look perfect and flawless, too heavy foundations can also appear and feel mask-like. They also don't look so hot when viewed up close and personal. Not to mention that it’s more likely to cake throughout the day!

So, do you really need a full coverage foundation? The truth is, you might not actually need as much as you think. We’ve listed the top reasons women use to justify the heavy coverage on a regular basis, and how you can start changing up your makeup game into one that allows you to embrace your imperfections and your skin to breathe.

downloadfile-1.jpg

Reason #1: I already have a foundation that I love and I don’t want to stop using it.

Solution: Thin out your coverage with moisturizer.

We know the struggle of finding that perfect foundation, as well as needing to scrounge up funds before being able to shell out for a new bottle. Instead, why not just thin out the coverage of your favorite foundation by mixing it with a bit of moisturizer? You can control the coverage depending on the ratio of foundation to moisturizer you use (more moisturizer = less coverage). This way, you can still enjoy the benefits of your favorite foundation while  letting your natural skin peek through. You can even take it up a notch up by making your own cushion!

Reason #2: Sheerer formulations slide off my face.

Remedy: Use a primer.

Adding a primer can seem like an additional step but if foundations can’t seem to stay put on your face, then it’s worth the extra effort and offers a better solution versus just packing on product. A PV favorite is Benefit ThePorefessional Matte Rescue Gel (P1,600 at Benefit) - it’s a bit pricey but a tiny amount is all that’s needed for the whole face. If you’re on a budget, try our primer picks for under P500.

Reason #3: I want to cover my pores.

Remedy: Try a sheer foundation that illuminates your skin.

Adding more coverage is not the answer to covering up pores. Instead, go for a light face base with pore-blurring properties. We love Benefit ThePorefessional Pore Minimizing Makeup (P1,700 at Benefit) for this. In addition, pore-blurring powders like Benefit ThePorefessional Agent Zero Shine (P1,600 at Benefit) can also help.

static1.squarespace.jpg

Reason #4: I have blemishes I want to conceal.

Remedy: Apply concealer only where you need it.

As someone with extremely oily skin, trust me when I say that concealers have a better chance of staying put all day compared to a long-wearing foundation. The heavier formula and more intense pigmentation makes it easier for blemishes to stay hidden all day, too! I’ve found that MAC Pro Longwear Concealer (P1,250 at MAC) can survive my 16-hour workdays and extremely oily skin. The price is worth it because the tiny amount you need makes even a small bottle last forever! Other cult faves are the NARS For the more budget-conscious, Pink Sugar Our Li’l Secrets Concealer (P299 at SM Beauty) is a PV favorite because the tiny tube packs heavy coverage and sets like cement!

Have you ditched your heavy face bases for something more light, comfortable and natural? What products would you recommend for that second skin feel?

Heads up! If you or someone you know loves shopping at Estee Lauder, you shouldn't miss their yearly Gift Time. This February they have a new tote and pouch design that I've really been enjoying for my casual days out lately. The zebra print is cute and a touch sporty according to how I style it! You can get the pouch and skincare set for free at a minimum purchase of P6,000, and both the pouch and tote with a minimum purchase of P7,000.

The travel pouch includes luxe sizes of the following: Perfectly Clean Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask, Micro Essence Serum, Advanced Night Repair Serum, Advanced Time Zone Moisturizer, Advanced Time Zone Eye Cream, Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening Mascara, and Pure Color Gloss in Jealous Blush. These products should set you up for your next trip, or just let you sample some of Estee Lauder's best-sellers! I love bringing the travel tube of Perfectly Clean Foam Cleanser as it is powerful enough to remove light makeup on its own; I don't have to tote a separate makeup remover if I don't want to make space for it.

This offer is available in Estee Lauder counters at Rustan’s Makati, Rustan’s Shangri-la, Rustan’s Alabang, Rustan’s Gateway, Rustan’s Cebu, SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, and SM Aura only until February 28. Catch it while you can! ^_^

Did you feel the love in the air this Valentine’s? Well, you certainly will when you see this week’s beauty roundup! From a timeless Hollywood actress looking absolutely fresh-faced for her newest endorsement, to an iconic animated character getting her own lipstick, these stories are going to have you swooning!

You wouldn’t believe that she’s 49

Celebrities have always been a popular option for endorsing beauty products and this case is no exception. What we do love is that Neutrogena’s latest face perfectly reflects the brand’s own timelessness and reliable performance. Exuding class and a flawless look, Nicole Kidman now joins fellow brand ambassadors Kerry Washington, Jennifer Garner, Kristen Bell, and Hayden Panettiere as Neutrogena’s newest endorser! Kidman says that the key to her amazing skin is really down to three letters: SPF. Her first Neutrogena commercial will air at the 2017 Oscar Awards, and we honestly look forward to seeing what this partnership means for the brand!

Another goodbye?

Another bit of sad news, PV Girls: it looks like L’Oreal is looking to cut yet another favorite from their beauty portfolio. The cosmetics giant has confirmed that they aim to sell The Body Shop chain, which they acquired in 2006. The brand is known for using all- natural ingredients and tying up with environmental advocacies but L’Oreal has disclosed that the cut will give the brand better opportunities to continue to fully develop as a company. No word yet if this sale will mean yet another pull out in the Philippines – please, God, no! We’ve known (and loved) TBS since forever!

Well, the Pop Kitty Cat is launching yet another amazing collection with the brand, and it’s got our inner mermaids flailing with excitement! The new collection, which is set to debut some time in the coming months, is inspired by the ethereal and colorful vibes of the mythical creatures that the singer is a big fan of. The lineup includes four new eyeliners, four new lipstick shades, and two shadow-highlighter duos!

Adorably called the Katy Kat Pearl Collection, the dual-ended Katy Kat Eyeliners ($8) include a smudger tip to soften the edges of green, black, metallic black, and white liners. The Katy Kat Pearl Lipsticks ($8) are a set of magnificently pastel pearl shades like Blue-tiful Kitty (baby blue), Purrty in Pink (baby pink), REDdy to Pounce (true red), and Apricat (coral orange). What looks to be the game-changer for the collection is the Katy Kat Pearl Shadow + Highlighter ($8), a cream shadow that doubles up as the perfect metallic color on the lids and for popping a highlight on the cheeks! The prettiest highlighter we ever did see

This rose is pink / violets are blue / I want this highlighter / and you will, too! Lancôme’s latest creation, the La Rose a Poudrer, is hands-down the most ridiculously gorgeous highlighter in the world. Undoubtedly the star of their limited edition Absolutely Rose collection, the perfection that is this product has made us weak in the knees. Priced at $60, the powder highlighter is cleverly packaged in between those silky petals and is said to give a “lit from within” glow in a single swipe! Lancôme’s spring collection also features a cotton candy pink shadow and lip palette ($50), and a pearlescent white eyeliner ($26). I’m not personally fond of roses but this beauty would make for an even more memorable farewell purchase from Lancôme.

As you guys may know, Lancôme is pulling out, but it's pretty easy to order abroad depending on how badly you want it.

Red is the color of love, of passion, of blood. It's the color that gives us life and inspires us to action when we feel defeated by our circumstances. This is why the PV Team loves red lips: it's a quick way to brighten our day and our skin even when the odds seem impossible! For the first kit of the year, we've curated three lipsticks that will rekindle the passion you have for the things that matter to you. The Project Vanity Passion Kit is also our very first mini kit, and only retails for P600 at The Project Vanity Store (projectvanity.com/store).

The Everyday Pink Red

Revlon has new colors under their best-selling Ultra HD Line (P575), and one of them is a wonderful pink red called Kisses. This is a perfectly wearable shade that should be versatile enough to wear for all your daytime engagements. In person, it has more of a reddish tint and a brown undertone - it's super flattering for morenas!

The Fun, Outgoing Red

TheBalm's Read My Lips Lip Gloss in Wow! (P675) is one heck of a showstopper. A glossy cherry red, Wow! is a beautiful, instantly brightening color that will make your skin come alive. If you're digging the K-Beauty look with innocent eyes and stained lips, this gloss is a must-have in your kit!

The Sexy Red

The Pink Sugar Creamy Matte Lipstick in Diva (P349) is a classic deep, sexy red. Swipe it on for your dinner dates, or just wear it for your special someone - nothing but Diva! ;) We love the creamy texture and staying power of this demi-matte lipstick. We reach out for this often as it's a dupe for one of our fave shades from a high-end brand.

If you're loving what's inside our Passion Kit, grab it now for only P600 at the Project Vanity Store (plus P40 for shipping within Metro Manila and P135 for provincial locations). The total value of the kit is P1,799 including the custom pouch with my watercolor artwork. Have fun with your new lipsticks!

The Sex Talk: When is the right time to give up your virginity?

$
0
0

From talking about daring to go makeup-free or donning it full-on, to sexual harassment and consent, the female body seems to be the hot topic of discussion these days. Even though it has exposed the backward and sometimes twisted views of some people, I think it’s high time that we stopped whispering about our bodies as though they were something to be ashamed about!

Here at Project Vanity, we’ve started a series called The Sex Talk to educate women about what they need to know about their bodies to help them make healthy decisions. We talk to medical experts who provide accurate and factually-grounded information but there are some things that science doesn’t quite have an answer for.

Today, the PV team weighs on what we think is the best time for to have your first time, which, like it or not, is a huge deal for many women. There are no right or wrong answers here; we only hope that what we have to share will help others make the best decision for them.

Liz: Age, for me, isn't as important as preparedness when it comes to the first time. Different women (and men) have different pre-conditions, but never mind all of that - at the very least, one should know how sex actually works and how to deal with its side effects, like disease or pregnancy. It's not romantic, I know, but it helps to research first and talk to someone you trust before your first ever sexy time.

I think it's also important to understand that sex isn't intrinsically bad - it's ideally a healthy expression of your affection for someone you care about. Do it when you're mature enough to understand that, enough not to harbor feelings of guilt or worthlessness. Sex is something you do, and it doesn't necessarily define your value.

Den: I think the way our culture puts such an emphasis on virginity weighs very heavily on women, so that having sex for the first time becomes memorable even when the act itself isn’t all that pleasurable. At least emotionally, I think women do prepare themselves for it whether consciously or not. If you find yourself with a partner that you are sexually (and not just romantically) attracted to, best to start educating yourself about how to do it safely and consider bringing a condom or two. Sounds weird but that way, when the opportunity presents itself, you can make it “the right time” because you’re prepared. Don’t just rely on your partner; be proactive for your own safety.

Kim: Kapag walang tao. Kidding aside, I think it's more of deciding on the right person than just the right time. Unless I know and trust a partner well enough to co-parent a child, I'd prefer to keep my legs closed. Sex isn't equal babies, of course, but it's an intimate experience that I would not want to share with someone I can't see as a potential life partner.

Crystal: It would be really romantic to talk about doing it with the right person, waiting until marriage, etc. but I believe that monogamy isn't for everyone, especially among young adults. More importantly, it's about being emotionally and mentally ready. Being mentally ready involves having a clear idea of what doing the deed actually entails - what are the risks involved like pregnancy and STDs, and being responsible enough to protect yourself. Also just as important is being emotionally ready. One should do it because she really wants to, not to crave attention or because he/she is being manipulated or pressured into it.

Gett: It's not so much about the right time but more of if you and your partner are both ready for it. You both have to educate yourselves on the consequences that sex can bring (i.e. pregnancy, STDs), and to know how you can protect yourselves from these risks. You also have to be mature enough to communicate with the other on your needs and expectations.

Claire: Moral and religious beliefs aside, both men and women should engage in sexual activities only when they're ready for its possible consequences - physically, emotionally, and mentally. Women always have more to consider; both sexes are at risk to STDs but only women have to worry about getting pregnant. It's just the way the human reproductive system works! And of course, mutual consent should be present always.

Angela: I agree with Kim's answer. It's best when you know that you are with the person you want to spend your life with and when that person wants the same thing. I know a lot of people have different opinions on this topic and I respect whatever they may be. But for me, the right thing to do is consider first if you both want to do it already and take into account both your own values, faith, health, readiness, and maturity. Then you can decide when the right time is.

Stacie: I asked my mom and Mama Chan said, “At night!” The right time will be when both parties knows their responsibilities. I'm not just talking about heterosexual relationships here; responsibility is not limited to pregnancy and STD. Concerns on emotional and mental health matters just as much or even more than the physical consequences one faces before, during and after sex.

I guess the right time is also when you know you're ready to face the sneers of the conservative, something that I believe hinders our society from accepting a more liberal state of mind. Personally, I would rather wait until marriage. I currently don't have any dating experience and am not planning on having one anytime soon. I have other things up my priority list!

Marielle: When both parties fully understand the massive responsibility it entails, then they can go ahead and do the deed. That encompasses the risk of unplanned pregnancy, disease prevention, and the like. Dapat kayang panindigan. If you and your partner are faced with difficult decisions and awkward announcements, can you both handle it together? Or is there someone who will flake?

And here's some food for thought: As it is, there are already a lot of adults who are iffy about commitment. What more for young adults who are not hardwired to commit at that age? It's a time for finding yourself, not limited to who you should be (sleeping) with. It sounds like a cliche, but it's best to enjoy that time and be assured that there will be plenty of sex to come—pun intended—when you're finally ready for it.

Katsy: I honestly believe that the right time to sleep with somebody is when both parties are fully aware of the consequences and potential changes that the action may yield. That whatever happens, they are ready to face it. Whether they grow closer, or farther apart from doing the deed, both have to be physically, mentally, and emotionally strong and prepared to survive as sleeping with anyone sort of stays with you for the rest of your life.

Charlie: I think the “right time” is relative to the point when both people are ready—whether that’s emotionally, physically, or mentally. I agree with Katsy. Sleeping with somebody is going to trigger life changes or blur lines in both the parties’ lives, or chances are, maybe it even won’t. But if consequences do happen and if they’re truly ready to face that after they do it, then maybe that’s the right time.

When do you think is the right time to have sex? How do you think should women prepare for it? Let's keep the discussion friendly!

Nine bad morning habits that are ruining your skin

$

0

Living in the city is no picnic. All too frequently, we find ourselves scampering out of the house in the morning to beat the rush hour traffic that we don’t always have the time to nail down our morning beauty routine. Sometimes we end up taking shortcuts to get through it faster but some of these habits might be harmful for your skin. If you find yourself guilty of one or more of these, it’s time to kick the habit!

Bad habit #1: Taking hot showers

Sure, a hot shower feels so good in the morning but hot water can dry out the skin. Stick to a warm shower with a temperature that is just slightly higher than room temperature. It also helps to limit the length of time you are exposed to heated water by turning off the shower in between rinses, plus you conserve water. If you must have a hot shower, though, you can help compensate for the dryness by adding an in-shower moisturizer to your routine like the Nivea In-Shower Conditioner (P124 for 100 ml at department stores).

Bad habit #2: Skipping facial cleansing

So you did your 10-step Korean skincare routine the night before and you might think that you can get away with just splashing your face with water the next morning? Wrong! Skin oils continue to accumulate even while we sleep so it’s best to cleanse the face again in the morning to clear our skin and allow maximum absorption for our morning beauty products. There’s no need to deep clean; a simple cleanser (like these under P500 picks) will do. Just make sure you’re doing it correctly!

Bad habit #3: Picking on your blemishes

Staring at your reflection as you brush your teeth in front of the bathroom mirror can suddenly make you aware of a surprise zit or two. I know it’s hard but resist the temptation to pop them! The resulting wound can leave your skin vulnerable to bacteria and even delay its healing, leaving you stuck with a blemish for longer. Leave the zit-popping to the professionals and apply an acne patch over it instead. We love the CosRX Acne Pimple Master Patch (P170 for 24 patches at theskincarecurator.com) which treat pimples quick and allow them to heal without leaving marks.

Bad habit #4: Applying products in the wrong order

Skin care can get expensive; it would be a waste if we don’t get to maximize its effectivity. The general rule is to apply starting with the thinnest consistency to the thickest, otherwise the lighter formulas may not be able to penetrate the other layers of product. If you’re still unsure about when to apply what, check out our guide for layering skin care!

Bad habit #5: Tugging on your eyelids

Having to get up even when you don’t want to leave bed sucks but don’t rub the sleep out of your eyes! The skin in the eye area is the thinnest part of our face and also the most delicate. Rubbing, whether upon waking up or as you apply your eye cream, can stress your skin and cause unnecessary fine lines in the long run. Splash your face with water instead and use your ring finger (which has the least amount of strength among our fingers) to gently pat the eye cream on. Don't have one yet? We've shared our fave products for our peepers!

Bad habit #6: Foregoing moisturizer

Even as an oily-skinned gal who struggles with her skin every day, I’ll be the first to tell you: yes, you still need to put on some moisturizer! No matter your skin type or how hot and humid the weather feels, there is just no excuse for skipping this step. If you don’t like the heavy, sticky feeling of creams, try a gel formula. They’re water-based, lightweight, and easily absorbed by the skin, making it perfect for people on the go.

Bad habit #7: Ditching sunscreen

If you haven’t incorporated sunscreens into your daily routine yet, it’s the single, most important skin care product in your entire routine. Aside from the anti-aging benefits, it’s your best protection against skin cancer! Formulas like our favorite Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50 PA+++ (P420 at leading department stores) no longer have that sticky feeling, white appearance, or annoying scent. You can even buy sunscreens on a P500 budget. Remember that although your makeup may have SPF, you’ll have to apply a whole lot of product to get that amount of protection, so it’s still best to use a dedicated sunscreen.

Bad habit #8: Neglecting your lips

We nitpick every pore and wrinkle on our faces that sometimes we forget that our lips need some TLC as well. Just like the rest of our skin, they can also experience dehydration. Aside from regularly applying lip balm, you can actually show your lips some love by putting a bit of your favorite serums and moisturizers on them as with the rest of your skin! You can also prime your lips with something like the In Her Element Nourish & Cleanse Balm (P595 at Inherelement.ph) so your fave lip colors won't dry out your kissers.

Bad habit #9: Using dirty makeup brushes

Cleaning makeup brushes can be such a chore sometimes but neglecting to do so can undermine all the good skin care work you’ve been doing. Makeup brushes can get loaded with bacteria, oil, and dirt that can clog your pores and cause breakouts. You can always use baby shampoo or make one yourself. No time to deep clean your brushes? Clean your brushes in a jiffy with quick solutions like Ellana Minerals Cucumber Melon Makeup Brush Cleaner (P400 at ellana.com.ph) or Pure Instant Color Cleaner Solo (P275 at suesh.com).

Why Enchanteur Paris is your next summer scent

There’s just something enigmatic and alluring about French concept of beauty – it’s chic yet effortless, and elegant but never over the top. I’ve read books like “How to Be Parisian wherever you are”, have the City of Lights on my travel bucket list, and probably watched one too many YouTube videos on the ubiquitous French wardrobe. One thing I always notice is their uncanny sense for the perfect finishing touch, such as wearing a scent that lingers and captures their story.

Enter Enchanteur Paris, the latest treat for us fragrance lovers! This new perfume line makes it possible to smell amazing all day long, without a steep four-digit price tag.

There are four fragrance lines to choose from, which were skillfully blended to evoke particular moods:

  • Magique (apple, magnolia, praline) – carefree, confident, and adventurous
  • Belle Amour (apple, melon, blackcurrant, pink rose) – romantic and sweet
  • Mon Amie (fresh citrus, red apple, pink peonies) – fun, cheerful, and charming
  • Adore (wild jasmine, pink mimosa, golden pear) – elegant and graceful

Each fragrance line comes with a suite of similarly scented products, making it easy to layer them on and create a long-lasting perfume that clings to the skin.

Start by prepping your skin with Enchanteur Paris Parfum Lotion and Parfum Serum (P210 and P275). The added moisture not only makes your skin feel soft and supple, it also gives the fragrance a good base to stay on. Next, stay fresh and keep body odor at bay by spraying on the Enchanteur Paris Deospray (P129). Hands are usually prone to dryness because they’re constantly moving and washed to stay clean, so make sure to care for them with the Enchanteur Paris Hand Cream (P100). Finally, spritz the Enchanteur Paris Eau de Toilette (P400) on your pulse points and on your hair brush before running through your strands.

The Parfum Lotions also have additional benefits that you can choose (and benefit) from according to what your skin needs:

  • Mon Amie (blue) – Double Moisture with Ultra Hyaluronic Hydration & Olive Oil
  • Belle Amour – Triple Whitening with Vitamin B3, Sakura & Liquorice
  • Mon Amie (yellow) – Light & Fresh with Aloe Vera, Portulaca & Sunscreen Active
  • Adore – Antibacterial Care with GermClear Formulation & Swiss Edelweiss

My personal favorite is the Mon Amie line for its fresh scent notes, and will be a great pick-me-up for summer. The hand cream is my new purse staple as it helps keep my hands moisturized without feeling sticky, plus I get that lingering scent, too. I love how the packaging uses bright colors, and the exquisite EDT bottle design looks stunning in my shelfies!

Enchanteur Paris is exclusively available from Watsons and at the SM Store Beauty Section. You can also check them out online here.

What’s your summer scent story? Which Enchanteur Paris line are you looking forward to try?

FOTD: What a 1,000-peso San San haul looks like!

$

If you read about my P995 full-face haul from HBC and have been curious about how the products perform and look like, I’m doing an FOTD and mini product review as promised! All of the products are from San San, which is currently their only in-store makeup line. There is no shortage of variety to mix and match for the budget-conscious shopper, though. Now that I’ve had time to give them a thorough testing, find out if my Valentine’s stash makes the cut, or gets left in the dust!

Let’s start with what is arguably their most buzzed-about product of the moment: the Age Defense Serum Foundation (P238). With only one shade available, it first seemed like a risky purchase but a quick swatch revealed that the runny formula has sheer coverage and can be built into several layers for full coverage. Once applied, the foundation settled into my skin without leaving any trace of oiliness or stickiness. There is a mild brightening effect on me, and I imagine it will give off a just-powdered look on more morena skintones. Do keep in mind that here is a strong honeysuckle cologne scent, so those who are sensitive to strong fragrances might want to sniff the tester first before committing.

My cover-up of choice was the San San Concealer SPF15 in Natural (P120). It has a dry balm-like texture that applies with some drag. The shade I got is the closest to my skintone, though it is still a shade or two lighter than I actually am. For use on dark circles, the concealer stays put for most of the day but tends to eventually cake on the oilier parts of my face, like the sides of my nose.

I was able to make the foundation and concealer work with my skin tone by applying the San San Pressed Powder in 02 Satin (P118) to set. Longevity is at two hours before my nose starts to get shiny.

Spoiler alert: HBC does a good job with eye makeup! The quality of each product in this category was consistently good, starting with the Eyebrow Powder Duo in Light-Medium Brown (P152) that I used on both my brows and lids. It took some time to build up the pigmentation but I think it also had to do with the inclusive angled brush that was too long but nicely firm. The brush had the tendency to bend, making accuracy in brushstrokes tricky. As an eyeshadow, the two shades of brown are flattering and easy to work with. My brow makeup stayed on all day long and only creases slightly on the lids after 7 hours of wear.

The Shader Brush (P39), while not as fluffy as I’m used to, performs very decently. With a light hand, I was able to apply and blend the brow powder without much trouble!

Even though the San San Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Black (P106) is more water-resistant than it is waterproof, I do like that the precision felt-tip has just the right thickness and firmness to it for better control. The formula has a slightly shiny finish and doesn’t deliver an opaque pigmentation in a single stroke. Applying 2 to 3 passes is ideal to build up a bold black line.

After curling my lashes and applying the Long Lash Waterproof Mascara in Black (P147), I later noticed that the mascara doesn’t hold a curl that well. The formula is also on the sticky side, and I can feel the thickness to it even after it has dried. It does offer subtle length and volume that looks very natural-looking, plus it stayed smudge-free for 6 hours!

Finally, the Creamy Matte Lipstick in Tempting Ruby (P151) is a bright red with a hint of a salmon undertone to it. The formula is neither drying nor hydrating, and it applies with some drag. The finish reflects some light, so it is not an entirely flat matte.

Going into the challenge, I honestly didn’t have high expectations. So it was a truly pleasant surprise to find that the products performed very well! My top three must-haves are the versatile Eyebrow Powder Duo, the long-wearing Waterproof Eyeliner Pen, and the San San Pressed Powder that made my other face bases come together.

So what did you think of this FOTD? And when was the last time a drugstore product exceeded your expectations?

Say hello to the NEW Pink Sugar x Project Vanity These Lip Don't Lie shades

A month or so after the release of the first set of the Pink Sugar x Project Vanity These Lips Don't Like Crayons (P399), Laveen and Rohit met with me and asked if I want to make more shades under the line. Well, they didn't have to ask me twice! I am ridiculously happy with the success of the first collection (thanks to you guys!) that having more colors for the PS x PV collab is the ultimate icing on the cake. With three new ultra versatile and flattering shades, my goal is to help you complete your lipstick wardrobe!

Each new shade features Pink Sugar's usual superb formulation. These glides on the lips easily and sets with a demi-matte finish. Staying power is fantastic - at 4-5 hours without eating or drinking, it also doesn't dry out lips because of the shea butter and Vitamin E in it! Here are the three new colors to choose from (or collect *wink*):

I Can't Even is a peachy rosebrown that's bright yet dainty. It should suit both cool and warm skintones, and should even serve as the perfect nude lipstick for those with deeper coloring! Sorry Not Sorry is an unapologetic peachy cinnamon. It's sassy and leans a tad brick-y, another update on the brown lipstick trend. Finally, we've got Just A Fling, a sexy roseplum that should instantly brighten your skin! It's not quite red, not quite plum - it's a fresh rose that has just barely bloomed.

As you may have noticed, each shade name is in keeping with the little white lies us girls love to tell. ;) That's why the line is called "These Lips Don't Lie"!

sorry not sorry.jpg
just a fling.jpg

I made a video to show you guys what each shade looks like in motion. <3 I'm not sure if you can tell, but I am beside myself with excitement here. I say this a lot, so I'm not sure if people still take my word for it, but I still can't believe that Project Vanity has its own lipstick line inside Watsons and SM Beauty stores. This is all thanks to Pink Sugar's Laveen and Rohit, who believed in me - in what Project Vanity stands for - and took a chance on making this dream happen.

And that is that. ^_^ I hope you enjoy these new shades as much as I do, and I can't wait for you to try them! The new Pink Sugar x Project Vanity These Lips Don't Like Crayons collection is out now in Pink Sugar counters inside SM Beauty and Watsons for P399. Are you digging any of the shades? What do you think?

Staff Picks: What we’re currently saving up for

Being around fellow beauty lovers is great fun and our group chats are often very lively. My one complaint though is that their recommendations give me serious cravings for new products! While it would be so awesome to have all the moolah to tick off everything on our beauty wish lists, I think that part of what makes a new purchase so enjoyable is knowing that we’ve earned it. I’m personally not looking to get anything new but I asked my fellow PV girls about the product they’re planning to buy next. Here’s a quick list of our current lemmings!

Crystal: I have been eyeing a Chloe perfume (P5,000~ at Rustan’s Beauty) since forever! I love almost all of the scents from the signature collection and would be delighted to get my own full-sized bottle! I don't usually like rose scents but Chloe just does it so well. It's sophisticated but young at the same time.

Marielle: I want to grab a bottle of La Vie est Belle (P3,500 at Rustan’s Beauty) before Lancôme leaves the Philippines! Last Christmas, I had to pass by their counter to run an errand for a relative, and I was able to catch a whiff of what smells like the kind of sophisticated woman I want to grow up to be!

Katsy: I am in love with the Shiseido Snow Beauty Powder (P4,000~ at Shiseido). It's a translucent finishing powder that you can wear during the day, and also at night over your skincare! I've always wanted to go out with just skincare and sunscreen on but my face looks a tad greasy without anything on top. I feel like this powder will solve that, not to mention the to die for packaging that will definitely up the pretty factor of my vanity!

Charlie: I’ve had quite a good run with Maybelline’s Eye Studio Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze and I’ve been on the lookout for a similar product. Moonshot’s Jelly Pot in Deia (P1,117 at Sephora.ph) is something I’ve been hearing a lot about and when I saw that it was available at Sephora, I got super excited because I really want to try it out. The price tag is pretty steep for me as I rarely purchase single eyeshadows that go over P200 a piece but I'm really curious about it as the swatches online look amazing and it’s said to be water-based and have a cooling effect.

Jenn: At the top of my shopping list is the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (P1,750 from Rustan's Beauty). I was initially hesitant because of the price but having tried it for several times has completely changed my mind. I'm impressed with how it compares to my other setting powders! The powder gives the perfect finish - neither too white nor too powdery - and actually did extend the wear of my makeup.

Stacie: My foundation game needs a serious upgrade! I've been saving up for a bottle of either Too Faced's Born This Way Foundation (P 2,351 from Sephora.ph) or Estée Lauder's Double Wear Stay in Place foundation (P2,400 from Estée Lauder). The price and performance of both foundations are almost similar so I've been having a hard time deciding which one to pick. I'll save up first and choose then!

Angela: I promised myself that I would buy a really good foundation this year. I've tried the Double Wear Stay-in-Place foundation (P2,400 from Estée Lauder) from my favorite brand Estée Lauder, and I've loved it ever since! I got a week's worth of sample and it just covered up all my blemishes without looking heavy or cakey. It lasted all day, too, which is what I'm looking for in a foundation. It's expensive so I’m cutting my budget on some of my other purchases.

Gett: I'm quite slap-dash with my daily makeup but I'm mad for lippies, hence my decision to splurge on one! I've been eyeing a Chanel or a Tom Ford, but I also reaaaaaally want Charlotte Tilbury's Bond Girl (P1,500~).

Kim: I've been pretty content with drugstore foundations in the past but I think it's high time for me to invest on a luxe foundie. Now that I spend long hours outside of the house, I need something that's going to wear beautifully all day long. The Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation (P2,700 at MUFE) has been on my list forever!

Radiance and serenity in a bottle: The Shiseido Ever Bloom EDP

When I'm looking for a signature scent, I gravitate towards strong, distinct, yet unabashedly feminine notes. It has to smell like power but not the aggressive kind without regard for subtlety; it has to be intelligent and focused. You can smell its presence in a room but it doesn't attempt to assault your nose with cheap tricks.

That's why I'm loving the new Shiseido Ever Bloom Eau de Parfum. I'd say this is a modern classic with radiant top notes of cyclamen, lotus, and rose essence and an enveloping base of orange blossom absolute, gardenia, and sylkoide musk. It smells clear and uplifting upon first spritz and then comes down to this serene pool of floral, woodsy musks. On me, it trails for a good five hours and melds with my skin well.

Screen Shot 2017-02-28 at 10.00.59 AM.png

The story of Ever Bloom is quite interesting. It's inspired by an old photograph from 1940 taken by none other than Rosō Fukuhara, the son of Shiseido's founder. It was then brought to life by famed perfumer  Aurelien Guichard. He says of the scent, "When creating Shiseido Ever Bloom, I wanted to bring a new fresh sensuality, a new petal blooming sensation that will leave un unforgettable impression. I imagined a transparent floral heart, clean and natural. An abstract flower that you can’t quite identify, a flower with a “blurred” outline… I think this fragrance is about serenity, happiness, sensuality."

I adore how ephemeral yet bright Ever Bloom is. If you know me, you know how this is the kind of scent I always reach for when I'm dressed to the nines! I definitely wouldn't say it's good for casual occasions, but it does suit work and social events perfectly. Smell this soon to see what I mean!

The Shiseido Ever Bloom EDP (P2,750/30ml and P3,700/90ml) is now available in Shiseido boutiques and counters.

Five reasons you shouldn’t miss The Podium’s 5-day sale from March 1-5

This story is brought to you by Podium Mall

As someone who’s always on the lookout for a good deal, sale announcements always catch my eye! My Facebook newsfeed is actually set to display posts from my favorite brands and stores first so I never miss out on a promo. It makes me giddy to see something on my beauty wishlist to be offered at a discounted price but as the empress of my own household, I much prefer mall-wide sales that allow me to shop (with less guilt) for all our various necessities!

Tomorrow is the start of Podium Mall’s Flavors in Fashion 5-day sale and I’m finally breaking out of my usual hermit mode to go! If the promise of great discounts isn’t enough to make you head over, here are five more reasons for you to get out and get shopping:

16865174_1318492674839959_3965463119383553418_n.jpg

You can shop at leisure. The Ortigas area turns into a virtual parking lot on Saturdays because of all the malls so I appreciate being able to get started on my shopping on a Wednesday! Podium also doesn’t get as packed as the other places, so parking isn’t usually as difficult and you don’t have to deal with huge crowds when you just want to chill.

You have more days to shop. I try to be prudent about my purchases and sometimes take a while to decide if I really want to buy something, which is why I'm not a fan of 2-day sales. I don’t want to end up feeling pressured to make a purchase just because the deal has a very limited time frame. This is especially important when considering a big-ticket item: take a day or two to really think twice, thrice, or more before pulling out your wallet.

The stores are carefully curated. To be honest, I used to feel too intimidated to shop in Podium because the high-end vibe made me think it was out of my budget. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to find a diverse range of shops though! You’ll spot Beauty Bar and The Body Shop as soon as you enter, and there’s a huge Watsons at the second floor. I like picking up organic toiletries at EchoStore, and shopping for clothes and accessories at the Markati Palazzo on the 4th floor.

Pop-up stalls offer variety and the chance to discover something new. The second floor atrium often feels like a hip indie bazaar from brands I’d never heard of or are only available online. Among those joining the sale are Better Basics (clean, understated tops and dresses), Simone’s Closet (boho-inspired fashion), Ceyana (kimono cover-ups), and Private Storey (silk robes and nightwear).

Get great deals even when you dine. Whether you need to fill up after shopping or just want to treat your loved ones to a great meal, the one-of-a-kind dining scene at Podium will be offering promotions and discounts as well. My family enjoys Gino’s brick oven pizzas, xiao long bao from Shi Lin, pastries from Wild Flour, and tres leches cake from Brasas!

There’s actually a lot to do in this cozy mall, and being able to bargain hunt in such a comfortable setting makes the trip worthwhile. The sale is from March 1 to 5, so you can head on over as soon as doors open on Wednesday, drop by after work on Friday, or bring the whole family on the weekend. Happy shopping!

Five environment-friendly alternatives to green up your beauty routine

As beauty girls, we’re always on the lookout for the best products, trends and techniques to help us achieve our beauty goals. Admittedly, there are times when these practices aren’t good for the environment. If you want to be greener with your beauty choices, it’s definitely a good idea to switch to brands that advocate and support environmental cause but in addition to that, you can help the planet by changing up your habits. Here are six things in your routine that are potentially harmful for the environment, and recommendations for what you can replace them with!

Trade your oil control film for rice sheet paper

It’s a staple in any oily-skinned gal’s makeup kit. Blotting papers are a must for preventing your face from looking like there was an oil spill, and should be used first before retouching to keep your base from turning cakey. Unfortunately, some oil control films are made from a thin plastic material that isn’t biodegradable. Opt instead for actual paper blotters that are made out of naturally-derived and biodegradable material. Our current fave: the Happy Skin Tickled Pink Skin Perfecting Super Absorbent Charcoal Blotting Sheets!

Trade your ordinary sheet masks for bio-cellulose masks

As you probably know, we love us some sheet masks here on PV! However, those made from a paper-like material are designed to be resistant to moisture so they don’t disintegrate easily. For a more biodegradable material with a luxurious feel, go for bio-cellulose masks that are made from coconut products. They may be pricier but they often fit better on the face, feel just like second skin, and can be added to your compost. We still haven’t replaced the Leaders Bio masks as our absolute HG!

Trade those microbead-based exfoliators for gommage or natural abrasives exfoliators

Exfoliating your face is necessary for removing dead skin cells and giving your complexion a bright and healthy appearance. However, if your scrub is made from microbeads, you should ditch it without a second thought. Microbeads are actually getting banned from beauty products because they’re too tiny to be filtered and end up getting eaten by sea creatures which may also ingest when we eat seafood. Instead, raid your kitchen for natural abrasives like coffee grounds, sugar, or salt. We’re also constantly raving about Cure so this is the perfect excuse to try it.

Trade your disposable napkins and tampons for reusable alternatives like menstrual cups

Quick life update: I’ve been using my menstrual cup for four months now, and I just love how I never have to worry about stocking up supplies whenever I get my period! It’s a pretty penny to spend on in the beginning but when I compared it to how much I used to spend on tampons monthly, it’s a lot cheaper. They’re also better for the environment because you can use the cup for up to five years with proper care, compared to adding used feminine product to the garbage problem every month. If you’re not ready for the cup, you can also get reusable napkins, which are available online.

Trade your makeup wipes for cleansing oils and balms

I know: they’re so convenient to use but maybe save them for when you’re on a trip. Wet wipes contain non-biodegradable plastic fibers, which are responsible for making them more resilient compared to your usual paper tissues. They’re also difficult to use for removing waterproof makeup thoroughly; an oil-based cleanser like the In Her Element First Wash Cleansing Oil can get the job done faster and with less effort. You won’t need to use any cotton pads or need to rinse too much since it’s formulated to wash off easily.

Will you be switching to these environment-friendly alternatives? What other eco-friendly beauty alternatives can you recommend?

Budget Beauty: Four overnight stick-on pimple killers under P450

Forget about putting toothpaste on a pimple. It literally won't help your acne heal any faster and may even worsen the problem! That doesn’t mean you have to stay stuck with a nasty pimple or have to worry about scarring. Aside from the usual pimple creams and spot treatments, advanced (and cheap) skincare technology has given us some very special stickers to put over those painful blemishes.

Acne patches are small, usually translucent adhesives that are designed to hasten a pimple’s healing process. The covering protects the pimple from being exposed to more bacteria and from bad acne-picking habits. Meanwhile, the moisture and active ingredients mixed into the adhesive are supposed to help pimples heal faster and lessen the chances of scarring. You’ll definitely want to keep a few of these in your vanity so you’re always ready for any nastiness; besides, they’re all under P450!

COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch (P170 for 24 patches from theskincarecurator.com)

When Liz first raved about how well the patches worked on her pimples, we were puzzled by how it supposedly “soaked up” the zit’s contents. A bit of research revealed that these are made in the same way as the hydrocolloid wound dressings used in medical procedures. It doesn’t contain any actual medication but the soft gel-like material absorbs the fluids in the inflammation, so they can literally reduce the swelling overnight!

Miacare Acne Patches (P149 for 12 patches + 6 free at Watsons)

Similar to the CosRx patches, the MiaCare Acne Patches are also hydrocolloid stickers but with more options. Day patches are made of the thinnest material so that they’re less visible on the skin if you want to wear them out of the house. On the other hand, Night patches are thicker, stick better, and able to absorb more fluid. There’s also a Day and Night box that contains both types of patches, so you have both options. Unlike the other brands, MiaCare patches are individually packed like bandages so they’re much more hygienic.

So how does it compare to COSRX? Well, aside from being more accessible, it does exactly the same thing - sop up pus from your pimples without coming off easily. However, the Day patches can absorb less of the yucky fluid so they kinda get overloaded if there's a lot of the pus. The Night patches should be better! The adhesive of Miacare also has a more sticky/loose texture to it compared to the clean texture of COSRX. There's barely any difference though

One Miacare patch is P8.22 (18 to a pack) while COSRX is P7.08 (24 to a pack but there are 14 tinier ones) but that doesn't count shipping.

Purederm Spot Reducer Gel Patches (P99.75 for 30 patches in Watsons)

For flat pus-free pimples, it’s better to use a treatment patch to deliver a concentrated amount of salicylic acid and tea tree oil. With the medication stuck in place, the embedded, "un-poppable" pimples ripen and then dry up faster! You can wear it going out or under makeup but its best to just stick it on your face before applying skincare and going to bed. This way, you’re sure that your spot treatment isn’t getting rubbed off on your pillows and sheets.

This medicated acne patch from Purederm contains .5% salicylic acid as its active ingredient. It has a skin tone shade that's quite obvious so this is not a patch you can wear out! Prepare for a bit of sting when you put this on due to the fairly high salicylic acid content; it goes away quickly though so it's nothing to worry about.

Do remember not to put this on open, popped pimples - you don't want to irritate them!

static1.squarespace-3.jpg

Leaders AC Dressing Spot-On Patch (P448 for 50 patches at Leaders stores)

The Leaders patches work the same as the Purederm ones, except it features tea tree along with salicylic acid as its active ingredients. This is also translucent; more natural-looking than the Purederm patch. It also sticks on better as Purederm's adhesive seems to remain emollient upon sticking to skin.

What do you think of this new skincare product? Have you tried using acne patches? Which brand works best for you?
